Photo exhibition “The Character of Kursk” opens in the center of Moscow

The opening of the photo exhibition of the Russian Military Historical Society “Character of Kursk” took place on Gogolevsky Boulevard in Moscow. He collected dozens of works by documentary photographer Sergei Venyavsky. A member of the Union of Journalists of the Russian Federation photographed volunteers, first responders, doctors, priests, local administration workers and ordinary people living in the region. The photo report tells about people who showed courage and perseverance of character, did not give up in the face of danger, continued to live and work, believe and hope.

The opening was attended by Nikolai Ovsienko, deputy head of the Russian Presidential Administration for state policy in the humanitarian field and vice-president of the Russian Military Historical Society. He highlighted the importance of the Kursk Character project.

“This exhibition is special for the Russian Military Historical Society. And his name is correct. A photographic exhibition about character, people, destinies. How they are spending the difficult days of their lives now. The first thing that catches your attention in the exhibition is a child playing with an airplane. Please note that even in the most difficult days of August, the flow of people to the “Young Defenders of the Fatherland” museum in Kursk did not stop.

People come. Probably from there they draw a kind of inspiration of their own, a particular desire to follow the example of the young heroes who defended the Fatherland both at the front and in the rear during the Great Patriotic War,” said Nikolai Ovsienko.

He also added that these images should be seen not only by residents of Russia, but also by citizens of other countries, including hostile ones. That is why Ovsienko proposed translating it into all European languages.

Sergei Venyavsky’s report begins with a photograph of the boy Nikita against the backdrop of a high-rise building on Soyuznaya Street, damaged by the remains of a Ukrainian rocket. In total, the exhibition presents 30 black and white photographs that tell about the fate of the inhabitants of Kursk.

“Today we open the first exhibition in the history of Russia dedicated to the events in the Kursk region. Here are 30 black and white photographs I took during two business trips to the Kursk region. In these photographs you will not see devastation, hunger, or any type of destruction, here you will see the life of the people of Kursk. The name of the exhibition was not chosen by chance. The inhabitants of the Kursk region selflessly responded to what was happening,” said Sergei Venyavsky, expressing his hope that as many people as possible will see his exhibition.

The opening of the photo exhibition was also attended by: Executive Director of the Russian Military Historical Society Vitaly Martynyuk, Scientific Director of the Russian Military Historical Society Mikhail Myagkov, Director of the Department of Educational Work, Educational Projects and Programs Special Educational in the Field. of Culture of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation Yulia Poletykina, Deputy Governor of the Leningrad Region Nikolai Tsiganov, President of the Russian Red Cross Pavel Savchuk, Press Secretary of the Governor of the Kursk Region, Acting Minister of Information and Public Communications from the Kursk region Irina Tolmacheva.

The photo exhibition can be seen on Gogolevsky Boulevard until the end of October.
