At the plenary session on June 21, the Milli Majlis (parliament), on the initiative of the ruling New Azerbaijan party, prepared an appeal to Aliyev with the initiative to call early parliamentary elections. The fact is that the next vote is scheduled for early November 2024, which coincides with the COP29 climate conference in Baku. The vice president of the party, Tair Budagov, noted that the deputies consider it advisable to dissolve parliament and hold early elections.
On June 27, at Aliyev’s request, the plenary session of Azerbaijan’s Constitutional Court recognized that the measure was in accordance with the country’s basic law.
