“Confrontation” is one of the most famous Soviet action-packed detective stories. The plot of the story by Yulian Semenov, written by him in 1979, is based on real events. Based on the book of the 1980s, a cult television series of the same name was filmed with Oleg Basilashvili and Andrei Boltnev in the lead roles, comparable in popularity, perhaps, only with “Seventeen Moments of Spring” and “The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed.”
The new “Confrontation” was directed by Timur Alpatov (“The Saboteur. The Perfect Assault”, “The Artist”, “The Golden Horde”), starring Vladimir Vdovichenkov, Karina Andolenko and Alexey Guskov. Filming of the series “Confrontation” took place in Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Black Sea coast.
The main characters, Colonel Kostenko (Vladimir Vdovichenkov) and his new assistant, young lieutenant Tadava, are sent to Magadan to investigate an unusual murder. The criminal’s handwriting leads them to a similar incident that occurred at the end of the Great Patriotic War. In order to identify a dangerous repeat offender, investigators have no choice but to try to find connections between the events and find traces of his crimes simultaneously in the past and in the present…
