On July 5, the public and moviegoers were excited by an unusual news: they say that the Ministry of Education of Russia recommended to its colleagues from the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation what kind of film should be made. As you can imagine (and, in fact, this is what the filmmakers have been doing for quite some time), they were advised to pay attention to the classics of Soviet cinema. And they even allegedly sent a list of dozens of films that need to be remade as soon as possible: “Dagger”, “Tomorrow There Was War”, “The Cranes Are Flying”, “Ivan the Terrible”. Of course, everyone who at least occasionally watched Russian films was perplexed by the news. The key question – “Why?” – overshadowed all other arguments in favor of the fact that the “task” is rather strange.

Of course, representatives of the liberal public also used the distorted information for their own selfish purposes, rushing to proclaim another crazy order from above: to continuously reproduce the old, forgotten ideal conditions for preserving society!

And now the Ministry of Education has come out with clarifications. It turned out that the Union of Filmmakers, which published the list of recommended films, was a bit hasty. There are no mandatory recommendations, this is false. There is only a debate of ideas between the two departments responsible for culture.

“As a matter of course, the Russian Ministry of Culture has received a list of masterpieces of Russian cinema, the knowledge of which seems important for the education of the younger generation,” the Ministry of Education told RBC.

The above list is presented as an example of a number of reference works that filmmakers who want to follow the traditions of Soviet classics should pay attention to. As for remakes, this topic will be discussed by experts and veterans of cinema.

In addition, the same list of works includes a dozen and a half literary works that are planned to be filmed, including Konstantin Paustovsky’s The Adventures of the Rhinoceros Beetle and Mikhail Prishvin’s The Blue Dragonfly.

The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, for its part, explained that the list under discussion was drawn up in response to the task set by the Federation Council of Russia to “increase the production of film adaptations of historical works for children and young people.” These letters are always for informational purposes only.
