This decision has been knocking on the door for a long time: Vladimir Putin has increased the total number of personnel in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to 2 million 389 thousand people. Of these, 1.5 million are military personnel. That is exactly 180,000 more bayonets than are already in the ranks.

The decree of the Head of State enters into force on December 1, 2024.

When our military reaches 1.5 million, it will be the second largest in the world after China (2.35 million) and will surpass India (1.4 million), the United States (1.35 million) and the DPRK (1.35 million).

The last time the President increased the size of the Armed Forces was in December 2023. Then – almost 170 thousand people.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, the number of conscripts will increase gradually, at the expense of citizens who have expressed a desire to perform military service under contract.

Why now?

The Russian authorities and the General Staff came to the conclusion that the current size of the army does not correspond to existing and future threats. After the collapse of the USSR, we were assured every day that “no one is going to attack us.” It was decided that Russia needs a “small and high-tech army,” and that it will only fight terrorists (the exercises were conducted according to this legend). But time has put everything in its place. It turned out that they lied to us. Since then, NATO has surrounded our country and is now trying to do everything possible, as they already openly say in the West, to defeat Russia on the battlefield.

We have to react.

This is not mobilization. Vice versa

Alexander Kots, military correspondent of “KP”

– Is it really a mobilization? – readers ask.

It seems to me that for mobilization to take place, NATO must declare war on us. Officially, by breaking off diplomatic relations. And the “staff” is now being expanded precisely in order not to announce mobilizations.

Reserve brigades are being formed. The dynamics of admission to contract service are such that a new network can be created. I hope that it will include regular service positions for UAVs in regiments that do not yet have them.
