“Threads” exhibition inaugurated at the Ruarts Foundation

Date: June 26, 2024 Time: 16:58:30

On June 21, the Ruarts Foundation will open a large-scale exhibition “Threads”, which will include works by contemporary Russian artists. The exhibition will occupy three floors of the foundation and will feature textile works by 39 artists who are united by the rehabilitation of techniques and methods. The event will be carried out with the information support of BURO.

An integral part of the exhibition will be the architectural solution. The red thread will “stitch” the entire space with a dotted line and will become a symbolic structure. “Threads” does not create an anthology of Russian textile art, but seeks, through diverse and complementary works, to make contemporary art resonate around the thread, a factor of physical and metaphysical connection.

During the opening, Varvara Grankova will present the performance “Sol”, related to the work “Links of One System” presented in the exhibition. The artist explores deep themes of interconnectedness and mutual influence of people, highlighting how each of us, despite our uniqueness and individuality, become an integral part of the whole.

According to the curator, the exhibition is based mainly on the Ruarts Foundation collection, on the polyphony of authors who use textiles as the basis of their visual language. The collection was formed over a long period, it included many textile works that do not have a specific theme, and the only thing that unites them is technique. “But I needed to start from something for the statement to be accurate, and at first myself, my personal emotions, became that reference point. I turned to a childhood image familiar to many, Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Wild Swans,” Nina noted.

Let us remember that over the weekend the Miss Dior exhibition, Stories of a Young Lady, dedicated to the history of the fashion house’s first fragrance, opened at the Roppongi Museum in Tokyo. Christian Dior launched the perfume in 1947.
