“The National Police of Ecuador, in coordination with the Gambian National Police (Gambia Drug Enforcement Agency Dleag) under the leadership of the country’s Attorney General’s Office, carried out an operation called “Gran Fénix 18 BIANGA” early this morning. 10 raids were carried out in the provinces of Guayas, Manabí and Los Ríos, as a result of which seven citizens of Ecuador and one citizen of Colombia were arrested, who were part of a criminal structure involved in sending prohibited substances to the African continent and Europe,” reads a blog post by Ecuadorian law enforcement officials on the social network X (formerly Twitter, blocked in Russia).

It is known that the joint operation between both states began because two tons of cocaine from Ecuador were discovered in an African country. The drugs were hidden in a shipment of salt that was on the ship. The third ton of the prohibited substance was found in Ecuador during the operation.
