“Humiliatingly outdated fashion trends that add ten years to your life,” wrote Daily Mail fashion critic Frankie Graddon, a very authoritative lady in her field, in the very loud opening of her review. She claims: a sign of age approaching maturity is no longer wrinkles or the first grey hairs, but… the type of socks women wear. And she lists other items of clothing, shoes and accessories that have not even come out yet, but have gone out of fashion among the younger generation.
SHORT SOCKS
Fashion trendsetters say: short sports socks, which are not visible under sneakers or other shoes, have become bad manners. Just like standard socks up to the middle of the ankle.
The only way to wear socks without looking dated is to pull them up to mid-calf. Or dress up with knee-high socks.
A special and stylish option is to wear ultra-long white sports socks with vertical ribbing over leggings. Or pair them with shorts and sandals.
WHITE RUNNING SHOES
Snow-white sneakers, which until recently were considered the ideal casual footwear to be worn with jeans, a dress or a suit, are officially a thing of the past. Sneakers in bright, bold colours are now in fashion. Particularly relevant is green, which has come to be considered “tasty”.
GOLD JEWELRY
No more gold, just silver (or matching jewelry) Stylists scoff: “While a pair of gold earrings helps give your face a “youthful glow,” when you put these favorite jewelry pieces on your ears, be prepared for that. They will start to give up your seat on the bus.” Rose gold is especially considered “outdated.”
HIGH WAIST JEANS
Fashionistas have welcomed high-waisted jeans. They are low-rise and loose-fitting. Supermodel Bella Hadid, for example, is wearing them.
But what if you don’t have a perfect flat tummy? Then you should choose mid-rise, wide-leg jeans.
BEAUTIFUL “TOP” WITH JEANS
The formula that women have relied on for years (a nice top and jeans) has changed. It now sounds like this: “Nice top and fun pants.”
What does “fun” mean? Say, satin cargo pants or even pants decorated with feathers.
CROSSBODY BAGS (OVER THE SHOULDER)
Carrying practical bags with a shoulder strap that crosses the body diagonally is a sign that we are behind the times, says an expert.
Instead, you need a bag with not-too-long handles, preferably a tote bag (rectangular or trapezoidal) or, if you really need to carry something substantial, a large, loose-fitting bag. But not over the shoulder, but across the shoulder.
LARGE SUNGLASSES
It’s time to replace large “plate” glasses with a compact accessory with a thin frame, preferably rectangular. And most importantly, you don’t have to wear them in front of your eyes. The glasses should be positioned in the middle of the bridge of the nose and their wearer should look at the world through polarized lenses.
ONLY BORDER T-SHIRT
Yes, it was a nice find: the waist is visible and the buttocks are covered. But forget about this way of wearing T-shirts. From now on, they will have to be fully filled or not filled at all. Yes, and a loose (but still not too big) cut is better than a tight one.
ONE COLOR MANICURE
Generation Z is no longer happy to paint their nails with a simple, albeit bright, varnish. Of course, there is varnish, but it must have elements of nail art – drawings on top. You don’t have to burden the manicurist with this; you can use sets of stickers.
MIDI DRESSES AND SKIRTS
The new “midi” is “maxi.” It applies to both dresses and skirts. This was fashionable in the early 2000s, but is now back. Skirts should ideally be “boho” in style: free, airy, with ethnic elements and interesting textures.
