Former US President Donald Trump has scored another important victory in his showdown with Joe Biden. The nation’s Supreme Court has ruled that Trump, like other former US leaders, is immune from prosecution for acts committed within the scope of his constitutional powers. This means that Donald will not be convicted of “inciting the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021,” as his opponents had hoped. They argued that Trump deliberately decided to commit a crime in order to change the results of the election in which Biden was declared the winner. However, the former president insisted that, as a guarantor of the Constitution, he only wanted to achieve transparency in the counting of votes. Since he was still serving as president at the time, the court held that Trump acted within the scope of his official duties and therefore could not be prosecuted. At the same time, the Supreme Court overturned the appeals court’s previous decision, according to which Donald was accused of breaking the law.
