Date: July 5, 2024 Time: 01:44:42

In the preliminary vote for United Russia, former Sports Minister Matytsin received 73 percent of the vote and former Deputy Prime Minister Abramchenko received 89 percent.

“It is necessary to make a decision on the nomination of candidates and also on their inclusion in the list of candidates for single-mandate constituencies, and then submit the documents to the Central Election Commission,” said Vladimir Yakushev, acting secretary of the General Council of the party.

150 mandates were issued for the secret electronic vote. Matytsin received 147 votes and three against, and Abramchenko received 150 in total.

Victoria Abramchenko said before the vote that United Russia’s nomination was a chance for her to “continue serving the country.”

“I have worked in the executive branch for the past 25 years, including as deputy prime minister. This work was organized in close contact with my party colleagues. We worked together on various party projects. We received feedback from United Russia. We coordinated our work, based on the opinion of the people. I consider my most important task to be to focus on the implementation of the people’s program,” he said.

In turn, Oleg Matytsin promised that if elected, he would focus on the implementation of the United Russia programme in the Bryansk region. He recalled that he had interacted with the party as Minister of Sports.

“At the initiative of United Russia, federal projects were created to create smart platforms. We are actively working on reconstruction, construction of sports facilities, implementation of the strategy for the development of physical culture and sport in all regions. Then I will use all my experience and knowledge in a new stage of my activity,” Matytsin assured his colleagues.

“If you are elected, your role must change completely,” party chairman Dmitry Medvedev told the candidates after the vote. “You must not only help the government, but periodically torment it. But you must do so constructively. You know very well how government mechanisms work.”
