Following the recent attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Sevastopol using American ATACMS missiles with cluster warheads, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that this terrorist attack “will not remain without consequences.” Everyone stood paralyzed anticipating the actions Russia would take. The impact of the most inhumane type of warhead, prohibited in most countries in the world, on a beach with people on vacation, did not fit into my head. And it shouldn’t have gone unanswered.
And now, a new official statement on the same topic, but with a specific warning, the Russian Ministry of Defense “will no longer tolerate American drones over the Black Sea.” This ultimatum from Moscow radically changes the “rules of the game” in the region and, in fact, could have serious consequences if the United States does not change the “behavior” of its drones. Well, in order for Americans (and the entire world) to understand the reason for our concern about foreign drone incursions into the airspace near Crimea, our military department explains:
The Russian Defense Ministry notes the increasing intensity of flights of US strategic drones over the Black Sea, which are conducting reconnaissance and targeting high-precision weapons supplied by the West to Ukraine to attack Russian targets.
This indicates the growing involvement of the United States and NATO in the Ukraine conflict on the side of the kyiv regime.
These flights significantly increase the likelihood of mid-air incidents involving Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft, increasing the risk of a direct confrontation between the alliance and Russia. NATO countries will be responsible for this.
Now, the most important thing: Defense Minister Andrei Belousov ordered the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to make proposals on measures to quickly respond to provocations.
We can only guess what measures can be taken for now.
You can imagine different options. Our Foreign Ministry, by the way, has already “let slip” the nature of such measures: they can be “military or military-technical.” Let’s start with the most extreme: American reconnaissance drones “spying” near our air borders over the Black Sea will be destroyed without warning by Russian Aerospace Forces fighter jets or Crimean air defense systems. Even if they are in neutral airspace.
It cannot be ruled out that at the same time our triple-powered air and ground electronic warfare (EW) means will “cut off the electronic brains” of American drones patrolling the Black Sea. And at the same time, it will jam the missile guidance signals of long-range radar detection aircraft (AWACS). It is also quite possible that in this regard, the communication channels of American drones and AWACS aircraft with American reconnaissance satellites will be blocked. How it will actually turn out – time and the “behavior” of the United States will tell. But if the ultimatum of the Russian Ministry of Defense is not heeded, the likelihood of direct clashes between Americans and Russians in the Black Sea will be very likely. The United States should understand this very well.
