The publication noted that the Democratic Party spent most of the current election campaign “burying its head in the sand,” despite Americans’ concerns about the president’s age and mental acuity. However, the article says, Biden’s disastrous debate with Trump forced Democrats to wake up and even begin publicly discussing his possible replacement in the election by another candidate.
The newspaper offered a list of ten people expected to be an alternative to Biden.
The Washington Post placed the current Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, in first place.
“Ignoring the first female vice president, already a black woman, would be risky for a party that is struggling to maintain its strong position among black voters, the largest part of its base,” the newspaper wrote. The publication considers that Harris’ only problem is her unpopularity among the people, comparing her only to Biden.
In second place in the WP was the governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, whom they described as “almost perfect on paper.”
In third place, the newspaper places the United States Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg, who seems to be “the opposite of Biden’s inability to convey his message to Trump.”
From fourth to seventh place, WP placed the governors of Pennsylvania, Colorado and California, Josh Shapiro, Jared Polis and Gavin Newsom, as well as Senator Raphael Warnock of Georgia.
The paper ranked former President Barack Obama’s wife Michelle in eighth place. According to the publication, she is “the most popular former first lady in the United States” but “is not interested in being elected.”
Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear round out the list.
