Yamal again took first place in the ranking of material well-being of the population – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Date: October 17, 2024 Time: 20:23:11

It is closely followed by the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug and the Magadan Region, followed by other territories far from the center of the country: the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Yugra, Sakhalin and the Murmansk Region. As analysts note, this is due to the income level of the population of these regions, which makes it possible to compensate even for the high level of prices.

Interestingly, although the Russian capitals are in the top 10, they are far from the leaders: Moscow is in eighth place with a score of 86.58 points, and St. Petersburg is in ninth place (83.3). The regions in the top ten occupy leading positions in almost all indicators, but the capital regions lost their primacy to the northern ones in one point: due to the low affordability of housing for the population. Real estate prices there are off the charts and in Arctic cities the demand for square meters is much lower.

The positions of the regions of the Ural Federal District are distributed, as usual, unevenly: the northern oil and gas autonomies are in the top five, the Sverdlovsk region is in the top twenty, with 63, 52 points, Tyumen and Chelyabinsk are far behind, but still confidently remain in the first half of the list (they have 50, 25 and 48.97 points respectively). The Kurgan region is traditionally closer to the rear, however, over the course of the year it managed to significantly improve the indicator – from 22.23 to 30.76 points, and our Trans-Urals broke away from the outsiders.

In general, the difference in positions in this classification is very large: the minimum indicator for Ingushetia is only 2.33 points. But it is gratifying that experts, comparing the results of this year and previous ones, note positive dynamics in all regions: the final rating increased in 85 constituent entities of the Russian Federation and its average value increased by 8.4 points . At the same time, in many regions the rate of improvement was quite significant: in 23, the rating increased by more than 10 points, of which five exceeded 15.

Meanwhile

The evaluation of the material well-being of the population has little to do with the quality of life in the regions, which is influenced by many other factors. According to the same agency, the leaders in the quality of life rating in 2023 were Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Moscow region, while the Arctic regions were far behind them. The best position among the northern territories was in Ugra (8th place), Yamal was only in 21st place, and the “sunny” Magadan and Chukotka overall occupied 60th and 75th places, respectively: after all, the harsh climate and the distance from civilizations affect the quality of life much more than high salaries.
