Apple will already present the new iPhone 16 to the world on September 9, but traditionally almost all the details of the upcoming smartphones are already known, both in terms of design and hardware, as well as operating system features. Before the announcement, we decided to highlight 16 main features of the new products.
We’re looking at the regular iPhone 16, not the premium Pro models.
New iPhone 16 camera design
As an innovation, the placement of the cameras will return to the usual vertical, in the spirit of the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12. At the same time, the square “island” will disappear, and the flash will be located outside the camera area.

Action button on iPhone 16
The regular model will feature the Action button that debuted on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. It’s replaced the silent mode switch, allowing you to select almost any action with this button: turn on the camera, switch modes, open an app, or anything else.
Shutter button on iPhone 16
Another button may appear on the iPhone 16: “shoot” (or “capture”) will be responsible for taking pictures with the camera, something that existed on Android smartphones 10 years ago.

Hybrid Zoom on iPhone 16
For the first time, entry-level iPhone models will feature optical zoom (previously only digital zoom), thanks to the integration of hybrid zoom. It will support 2x lossless zoom (5x for Pro models) and macro photography.

“Shirik” will now have an aperture of f/2.2: it lets in more light than last year’s model (f/2.4).
Record space videos on iPhone 16
Base iPhone models will be able to record spatial videos, which can be viewed in full on the Apple Vision Pro headset.

The smartphone will use Apple Intelligence, Apple’s artificial intelligence model, which processes all data on the device itself to improve security and offer more personalized recommendations for queries.

Unique A18 Bionic chip in iPhone 16
To support Apple Intelligence, all new iPhones will use a single AI-enabled chip, the A18. For the first time with the iPhone 14, the smartphones will have a single chip line, although more powerful versions of this chip (A18 Pro) are still expected for the Pro models.
RAM increase on iPhone 16
The amount of RAM in the basic models will increase by two gigabytes at once, up to 8 GB. The same volume will be maintained for the Pro models. According to rumors, in a year the iPhone 17 will immediately increase the amount of RAM to 12 GB.
iPhone 16 battery capacity
In the regular iPhone 16, the capacity will be higher: 3561 mAh (3349 mAh in the iPhone 15), but in the Plus version it will be reduced to 4006 mAh (4383 mAh in the iPhone 15 Plus).
New Face ID model on iPhone 16
Apple is rumored to be starting to rethink how the Face ID facial scanner works, and this will begin with the launch of new iPhones. It is unknown whether this will affect all smartphone models or just the iPhone 16.
New color range of the iPhone 16
The iPhone 16 line will feature two new colors (blue and green), and the models themselves will feature more contrast. There will be five options in total: the classic black and white, plus pink, blue and green.

iPhone 16 weight
Smartphones will gain a little weight: if the iPhone 15 weighed 171 g, then the iPhone 16 weighed 173 g. The same goes for the iPhone 15 Plus (201 g) and the iPhone 16 Plus (203 g).
Wi-Fi 6E support on iPhone 16
The smartphones will support the Wi-Fi 6E standard, which is already supported by the iPhone 15 Pro.
Support for 90 or 120 GHz on iPhone 16
Perhaps the most controversial rumor that appears every year: will the new iPhone model support the higher refresh rate that appeared with the iPhone 13 Pro and has remained an advantage of the Pro models ever since? Some rumors spread that it will appear. Others – not.
Reducing the “island” on the iPhone 16
Apple may reduce the height of the “dynamic island” on the screen (where the cameras are hidden) by a couple of millimeters. However, this is unlikely to be noticeable without a direct comparison of two different models.

iPhone 16 release date
The announcement of the device will take place on September 9 at 20:00 Moscow time at a special event, and its release is expected on September 15. The device will not be officially sold in Russia, but the first “gray” deliveries are expected on the day of release, most likely because smartphones are traditionally very expensive; prices will drop in about a month.
