This is not just a list, but instructions for self-healing.

Mental health is something we all struggle with, although its criteria are often not fully understood. On the one hand, we intuitively feel that it lies in the ability to overcome life’s difficulties and maintain harmony in relationships with others. On the other hand, it is not always clear which aspects of personality require attention to achieve this state.

“Psychological well-being is not an end point, but rather a constant movement and development that helps us maintain balance in our lives and build meaningful relationships with others. What traits and abilities form the basis of psychological health?

1. Awareness of your strengths and weaknesses

Understanding our strengths helps us use skills and resources wisely, set achievable goals, and move confidently toward them. It’s like owning a set of tools, where you know each one thoroughly and can use them at the right time. Confidence in our abilities supports us in difficult times, allowing us to move forward even when the road becomes difficult. At the same time, admitting your weaknesses is not a sign of insecurity. This is a manifestation of honesty with yourself. Being aware of your limitations and working to overcome them are indicators of a mature approach to yourself.

2. Regularly work on yourself

Psychological health is not a frozen state, but a constant process of self-discovery. It’s not just about thinking, but a conscious desire to understand your emotions and reactions. A mature person is willing to explore the depths of his psyche to understand why he behaves in a certain way. This process begins with simple questions: “How do I feel now?”, “Why do I react this way to what is happening?” and “What does this mean to me?” But behind these questions there is a deep analysis of your feelings, their impact on behavior and the search for ways to express emotions constructively.

3. Respect for personal limits, your own and those of others

Understanding your limits starts with understanding your own needs and limitations. This includes the ability to say “no,” pause, or take a step back to maintain inner balance. A psychologically healthy person realizes that his or her time and energy are limited and learns to manage them wisely, avoiding burnout. But respect for boundaries doesn’t end with yourself. It is also the ability to consider the needs of other people and respect their personal space, feelings and opinions.

4. Flexibility in the face of changing conditions

Psychological health is often reflected in the ability to adapt to change. Openness to new circumstances and the willingness to accept change as a part of life are the key qualities of a psychologically balanced person. You understand that not everything in life can be controlled and you focus on what you can change: your reactions and approaches. The ability to remain calm and act effectively in the face of change requires flexibility in thought and behavior.

5. Take responsibility for your life

A psychologically healthy person understands: he is the main architect of his life and his destiny is formed by decisions and actions, the responsibility for which lies with him. Realizing this means stopping looking for blame in external circumstances, admitting your mistakes, learning from them and moving on. This approach not only promotes personal growth, but also helps build mature and constructive relationships with others.

A psychologist explains how people fall into a cognitive trap:

What is the Dunning-Kruger effect and how do we suffer from it without realizing it?
