After the publication of the fragments, a huge scandal broke out.
The story surrounding former Georgetown University basketball player Sydney Wilson, 33, may move you to your core. Oh really. She was shot and killed by a police officer during crisis intervention when her mental state raised serious concerns for a doctor. This tragedy received wide publicity in the American media after the release of a police recording capturing Wilson’s conflict with a law enforcement officer.
It started as a routine wellness check, a standard procedure when reporting potential mental health issues. Police officer Peter Liu, specially trained to deal with crisis situations, arrived at Wilson’s home. Everything seemed calm until the woman opened the door and slammed it again. But the situation changed drastically: Wilson suddenly opened the door again and, with a knife in his hand, lunged at the policeman.

Cameras captured the disturbing moment: Liu tried to retreat, but Wilson persistently advanced with a knife in his hands. The policeman desperately shouted orders to stop, but his words dissolved into emptiness. When his knife left a bloody mark on her face, retreat became impossible: Liu was forced to shoot. Those seconds stretched into eternity when Wilson fell, leaving marks from his attack on the police officer’s face.
Images of the tragic event quickly spread online and the Georgetown University team expressed their condolences in memory of their former athlete. Police, justifying their actions, said Liu strictly followed all established protocols. Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said at a news conference that Liu showed courage and self-control in a critical situation, and that his actions were fully justified given the immediate threat to his life.
The paramedics who arrived at the scene desperately fought to save Wilson’s life, but their efforts were in vain. The video is available by searching YouTube for “Press Conference – Reston OIS BWC Release 10.14.24.”
