“Bad Boys to the End”: the standard summer blockbuster with Will Smith

Date: July 7, 2024 Time: 05:27:05

“Bad Boys” has never been original nor has it claimed to be great. It was a classic buddy movie with no special frills. The twist is that first-time director Michael Bay surpassed all the clichés with something surprising. The plot is simple, but the main characters are full of charisma and surprise with jokes. The villain is boring, but what fun to fight with him. On the screen there is a normal chase, but how spectacularly everything around it explodes.

As a result, the film seemed like a wild party, at the end of which everyone smiled heartily and promised to do it again. And in fact they repeated it, although with a delay: the second film was released eight years after the original, the third, another 17 years later.

On June 6, the fourth part, “Bad Boys to the End,” reached worldwide distribution. It’s still a good old action movie with a cliché story and a sincere desire to entertain the viewer.

“Bad Boys all the way”: where to watch?

Unofficial screenings have already begun in Russia. The film will be released digitally approximately before the end of summer.

Old cops, new problems

After a series of crazy adventures and grave losses, the heroes find peace. Mike gets married, Marcus eats candy and is proud of his children, the villains don’t bother anyone. Everything changes when the late boss of our bad guys is accused of colluding with the cartel. The heroes don’t believe this nonsense, so they begin their own investigation and quickly find out: there’s a mole in the Miami police who’s muddying the waters.

You shouldn’t expect much from the story itself. This is hinted at in the central plot: the heroes spend the entire film searching for a traitor, but discover him halfway through the film. The bastard behaves in a painfully caricatured manner. If he played “Mafia” or Among Us, he would definitely be the first to fly.

It’s a similar story with the main villain. He has a textured appearance and a tragic backstory, but all of this is overridden by stereotypical behavior. Relentlessly look around and threaten the heroes with severe punishment and then merge mediocrely? Our bandit likes this.

The film isn’t particularly interested in its supporting characters at all. Take Better Call Saul’s magnificent Rae Seehorn, for example. The actress has long proven that she can cope with any dramatic task, but in the new film she simply has nothing to play. Why is that? Because her character is not a full-fledged person, but simply a function. It is necessary to inflame passions, increase the characters’ feelings of guilt and, in the end, absolve them of their sins.

Interestingly, these shortcomings don’t hurt the film at all. However, the supporting characters carry out their tasks normally and periodically host Mike and Marcus’ best moment. Well, these guys are so lively that you will never get bored.

For example, at the beginning of the film, Marcus is on the verge of death and has a transcendental experience. He now talks about past lives, in which he was a shepherd and Mike was a stubborn donkey and generally considers himself immortal. Marcus’ antics not only make you laugh, but they also seriously affect the plot. Even the ridiculous immortality theory blows up at the end of the film.

The slapstick wouldn’t work if Will Smith and Martin Lawrence didn’t have so much fun in their roles. In every scene they are full of enthusiasm and an obvious desire to have fun. It is not surprising that the tandem formed in 1995 is so interesting to follow.

The action never lets you get bored

The action in the new “Bad Boys” is tied to the usual shootouts, but a lot of work was put into each of them. All in order to make movements, shots and deaths look as convincing as possible.

Just look at the scene where a young Marine defends a house from an invasion. The battle takes place in an uninviting kitchen, but the action is more interesting to watch than the epic fights in Marvel’s fantasy worlds. The room shatters, any table becomes a shelter, every movement of the infantryman is abrupt and merciless. As a result, at the end of the scene you want to gasp with joy.

Although the directors saved the best shootout for last, which was partially filmed in one take. Filming there is done from a camera placed on Will Smith’s chest. The actor constantly turns it around and changes the angle from first person to third person and vice versa. It looks incredible!

The best action of the film is ahead.

Bad Boys all the way: Is it worth watching?

The new “Bad Boys” does not make a revolution, but it fulfills the entertainment function in five points. You’ll laugh at the jokes, you’ll be blown away by the earnest action, and in the best moments you’ll press yourself into your chair from the tension. This is enough to give the film the honorary status of “Worth Watching.”

Bad Boys Until the End: 7.5 out of 10

Appreciated

Smith and Lawrence make an incredible duo. The action is very fun. Full of good jokes.

I dont like him

The plot is too predictable. The secondary characters are poorly developed.
