All fans’ attention is focused on Euro 2024. But life at the clubs goes on. The summer transfer window is officially open everywhere and interesting deals are being made every day. We have compiled the top transfers of the past week for you.
Georges Mikautadze: Ajax → Metz (13 million euros)

Metz have bought the rights to Georgian national team striker Georges Mikautadze from Ajax. The striker spent the second half of the 2023/2024 season on loan in France. Metz are reported to be paying €13 million for Mikautadze.
Georges has been in the French club’s system since 2017. And in the summer of 2023, Ajax acquired the player for 16 million euros, but six months later they returned the striker to the French club on loan. Last season, Mikautadze made 19 appearances for Metz, scoring 12 goals and providing one assist. And at Euro 2024, the 23-year-old striker became a star. Mikautadze made four appearances for the Georgian national team, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

Douglas Louis: Aston Villa → Juventus (51.5 million euros)

Juventus have acquired 26-year-old midfielder Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa. The Brazilian’s contract runs until 2029. According to Transfermarkt, the transfer fee was €51.5 million plus bonuses.
However, the deal was not limited to a transfer. In addition, Douglas Louis’ girlfriend, Alisha Lehmann, moved to Juventus’ women’s team from Aston Villa. And the Turin team sold two players to Birmingham at the same time: midfielder Enso Barrenechea (€8 million) and winger Samuel Ayling (€14 million).
Sergiño Dest: Barcelona → PSV (10 million euros)

PSV have announced the purchase of US national team defender Sergiño Dest from Barcelona. The Dutchman signed a four-year contract with the Eindhoven club. The transfer fee was reported to be 10 million euros. Dest previously played on loan at PSV in the 2023/2024 season. Sergiño failed to make a name for himself at Barça. Jan Matsen: Chelsea → Aston Villa (€44.5 million)

Aston Villa have signed 22-year-old left-back Jan Matsen from Chelsea. Insider Fabrizio Romano reported that the Birmingham side bought the player for 44.5 million euros. Matsen signed a contract with Aston Villa until 2030. It should be recalled that Jan has been on loan at Borussia Dortmund since January 2024. Together with the German club, he reached the Champions League final. Matsen is currently competing in Euro 2024 as part of the Dutch national team.
Hakim Ziyech: Chelsea → Galatasaray (free agent)

Chelsea have announced the departure of winger Hakim Ziyech to Galatasaray. The 31-year-old Moroccan spent last season on loan at the Turkish club. Ziyech signed a one-year contract with Galatasaray. Hakim moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2020 from Ajax. For the Londoners, he made 107 appearances in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and providing 13 assists.

Minthe joined Newcastle in the summer of 2023 but did not play a single game for the club. He was immediately loaned out to Feyenoord, where he performed well. Brighton swooped in and bought Yankuba from Newcastle for €38.8m. An excellent deal for the Magpies, who bought Minthe a year ago from Danish side Odense for just €8m.

Another Chelsea youth product is leaving the club. Winger Omari Hutchinson will be signed by Premier League newcomers Ipswich. The transfer fee was 26 million euros. Everyone is happy: Chelsea received good money, Ipswich received a decent boost.

Joselu returned to his favourite club 11 years later, won the Primera Liga and the Champions League with them and is now heading to the Middle East. There were rumours that Real would keep the striker, but he apparently decided to take a new step in his career. Madrid’s loan contract with Espanyol included a €1.5m release clause for Joselu and they activated it to facilitate the striker’s transfer to Qatari side Al-Gharafa. Great move!
Nacho Fernandez: Real Madrid → Al-Qadsia (free agent)

And yet Nacho has left Real Madrid. Fernandez spent 23 years in the Madrid system. Real Madrid is the only club in the defender’s career. It was. The Spaniard moved to Saudi Arabia as a free agent. A deal dictated by financial rules. Newcastle have sold midfielder Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest for €41.2m. The Magpies need the transfer to comply with financial fair play rules. Anderson has signed a contract with Nottingham until the summer of 2029.
Another deal between the clubs is the transfer of goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos. The Greek moved from Nottingham to Newcastle. The amount of the transfer is unknown.

Major purge at Atlético. Four players left Madrid at the end of their contracts: Memphis Depay, Mario Hermoso, Gabriel Paulista and Vitolo. The latter has not been part of Atlético’s first team for some time. Gabriel arrived at the club in January 2024 but has not proven his worth. But Depay and Hermoso were the protagonists. However, they decided not to renew the agreement with them. Let’s see who Atlético finds to take their place. And where the players themselves will go.

Crystal Palace have received a strong player for free. Midfielder Daichi Kamada has moved from Lazio to the Premier League. He has signed a two-year contract with the Londoners. The Japanese will team up with coach Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace. They previously worked together at Eintracht Frankfurt and won the Europa League with the Frankfurt club in 2022.
Hiroki Ito: Stuttgart → Bayern (23.5 million euros)
Another notable Japanese. Ito had a great season at Stuttgart, with whom he beat Bayern and finished second. Interestingly, just two years ago, in the summer of 2022, the all-round defender was bought from Jubilo Iwata for 400 thousand euros. That’s how much a 25-year-old paid off! Now he will rock in Munich. Last season he provided two assists in 29 games in all competitions.
Archie Gray: Leeds → Tottenham (€47.2m)

Tottenham’s first big purchase of the off-season. For a considerable sum (47.2 million euros), the Londoners acquired one of the best players in the Championship: Archie Gray. Last season, the central midfielder played 52 games in all competitions and provided two assists. And now he will help Angelos Postecoglou and Tottenham.

Chelsea continue to do what they love: spending money. First of all, the Londoners announced the transfer of 18-year-old Barcelona striker Marc Giu. The agreement with the Spaniard was signed until June 2029, the transaction amount is 6 million euros, and midfielder Kirman Dewsbury-Hall was acquired from Leicester, the former club of new Chelsea manager Enzo Mareschi. Striker Alexis Sanchez, as well as midfielders Juan Cuadrado, Davi Klassen and Stefano Sensi have left Inter due to the expiry of their contracts, the club’s official website reports. Sanchez, 35, has been with Milan since 2019. In total, he made 142 appearances for the team in all competitions, in which he scored 24 goals and provided 28 assists. Cuadrado, 36, has been with Inter since the summer of 2023. Klassen, 31, joined the Nerazzurri squad in the autumn of 2023. Sensi, 28, has been with Inter since the summer of 2023.

Ross Barkley: Luton Town → Aston Villa (5.9 million euros)

The 30-year-old midfielder has returned to Aston Villa. Barkley previously played for Birmingham in the 2020/2021 season on loan from Chelsea. Ross spent the last championship at Luton Town, who left the Premier League. In 37 games in all competitions, Barkley scored five goals and provided six assists. And now I’m off to Villa. The transfer fee was 5.9 million euros. A nice reinforcement for a penny by Premier League standards.
Piotr Zielinski: Napoli → Inter (free agent)
An incredibly successful transfer for the Italian champions. The Pole moved to Milan absolutely for free, but a player of his level should definitely bring money to the club. Yes, last season Zielinski was not as brilliant as in Napoli’s championship year, but he is still a top-class footballer. Yes, he is already 30 years old, which means that the midfielder will probably have his last chance to really shine at Inter.
