Today, July 15, the final of the fifth season of the Media League took place. The result of the decisive match was unexpected. Instead of a close and stubborn fight, we saw a crushing defeat of the favorite!

It was difficult to pick a clear favorite in this match. The predictions of football experts from the media were roughly evenly divided. Both teams showed confident play throughout the fifth season. However, a little more of the community believed in the victory of 2DROTS.
This was the seventh final in the history of the Brooks Boys, having lost the last six. The motivation of the Brooks was obvious: the team wanted to break the football media’s version of the curse of Bella Guttmann. In addition, Brooks’ president Dima Egorov (a former championship journalist) had a child the day before, so the players wanted to congratulate their boss with the first major trophy in the club’s history.

2DROTS already knows what it’s like to win big tournaments. “Samurai” won the first and second seasons of the Media League, which also made them favourites for the MFL-5 finals. After two championships, the team was a little deflated. But in the fifth season, Darts made it to the MFL finals again and were very determined to win. Adding fuel to the fire was the fiery semi-final, in which 2DROTS snatched victory from Titan at the last second thanks to a goal from the goalkeeper. Perhaps the “samurai” gave away too much excitement in that match, which affected them in the final.

How was the final?
The final was held at the PFC CSKA stadium – VEB Arena. A few days before the MFL match, all tickets were sold out. More than 30 thousand people were present in the stands. And during the break of the match, the famous rapper Basta gave a mini-concert (his club SKA-Rostov also performed at MFL-5).
As for football, it turned out to be of high quality and eventful. Of course, it did not reach the level of the RPL, but it was quite consistent with the level of the First League. The first half ended with a score of 1-0 in favor of Brooks, which in general reflected the content of the game. At one point, 2DROTS got too carried away with the attack and missed a counterattack that was successfully completed by former RPL football player Pavel Yakovlev.
During the break of the match, 2DROTS captain Vladislav Oslonovsky (better known as Elephant) proposed to his girlfriend. However, this positive moment did not negate the fact that the Samurai needed to change something in their game if they wanted to at least restore equality in the score.
The second half was a close game. 2DROTS, as the losing team, attacked more. And the Brooks simply repeated the same trick as in the first half. A quick counterattack, uncertain play by goalkeeper Dmitry Sychev and a goal by the Broke Boys: 2:0 on the scoreboard at VEB Arena.

A two-goal difference midway through the second half is unpleasant, but not fatal. 2DROTS could muster their will and stage a great comeback. However, psychologically the “samurai” sank after the second goal. There were attacks and moments. But there was a feeling that all this was happening by inertia, without much faith in oneself. But the “Brookies” bravely scored the third goal and brought the matter to a 3-0 defeat. The final whistle sealed a crushing victory for the Broke Boys. The first trophy is here!
Media League Season 5 Results
The Broke Boys team became the winner of MFL-5. The silver medals went to 2DROTS. The third place went to the Fight Nights club, which beat Titan in the bronze medal match. It should be noted that the “Championship” prediction about the winner of MFL-5 came true. We predicted both finalists (Brouk and 2DROTS) the highest chances of winning the title even before the start of the season.

What’s next? No clear plans with specific dates have been announced yet, but several more major tournaments in media football are planned for 2024. The MFL Cup and the Moscow Celebrity Cup are almost certain to take place. There was also talk of a World Media Football Championship, but the matter has not yet been finalized.
