Intrigue: Will Messi help the reigning champions?
It is not yet clear whether Lionel Messi will be on the field. The star footballer injured his adductor muscle and missed the last group match. His participation in the quarter-finals is still in doubt. Argentine coach Lionel Scaloni stressed that he will make a final decision before the match. In the group stage, the reigning world champions performed excellently: three wins in three games, not a single goal conceded. They successively beat Canada (2-0), Chile (1-0) and Peru (2-0). What about Ecuador? The 2022 World Cup participant advanced to the Copa America playoffs from second place in the quartet. It scored four points and was only ahead of Mexico on goal difference. Ecuador started with a defeat in the match against Venezuela (1-2), then beat Jamaica (3-1) and drew the match with Mexico.

This will be Sochi’s second game in the Summer Cup (the tournament is held in St. Petersburg). The first game was unsuccessful for Robert Moreno’s team: a defeat in the match against Zenit (2-5). The Black Sea club failed in the first half and conceded two goals, but recovered before the break. But then only Zenit players scored. Red Star will play in the Champions League qualifiers in a month and a half, but in the meantime it is preparing for the start of the new season in the Serbian championship. In the past, the Belgrade club won a crushing victory: its closest pursuer was 18 points behind.

Diana Schneider’s successful debut in the main draw of Wimbledon continues. The Russian has already successfully completed two rounds and in the third she will fight her well-known opponent Emma Navarro from the USA. The girls played twice this year and in both cases Diana was stronger: in the WTA125K final in Paris and in the semi-final in Bad Homburg. The winner of the new match will compete in the fourth round of Wimbledon with the pair Sonay Kartal and Corey Gauff.
