“I have a positive attitude to comparisons with Kostornaya.” All about the young star Plushenko Trofimova

Date: September 17, 2024 Time: 06:40:21

A whole galaxy of talented single skaters is growing in Russian figure skating, who, despite their youth, amaze with their skills and aspire to the highest places in the future. Our hopes for the 2030 Olympic Games are tied to them. The path to them has already begun for these athletes and for each one it is unique.

It’s time to get to know the new stars better, for whom the “Championship” is launching a special project “Supernova-2030”. The heroine of the new issue is 14-year-old Kira Trofimova.

The figure skater shone last season under the guidance of Evgeni Plushenko, who with his bright and aesthetic skating reminded her of Alena Kostornaya. Trofimova, like the 2020 European champion, is developing comprehensively and studying the elements of ultra-c (however, Kira does not jump a triple axel, but a quadruple toe loop). Comparisons with her famous compatriot do not bother the skater – on the contrary, Trofimova likes to admire the best and be inspired by their strengths.

It’s time to get to know Kira better and discover why she wins the hearts of her fans.

Trofimova shined under Plushenko’s leadership

Trofimova came to figure skating thanks to her mother’s suggestion. The girl imagined how well she skates on ice and does a luxurious Bielman, and immediately agreed. Kira was then four years old. A girl began figure skating in Odintsovo in the group of Roman Poleshchuk. Trofimova then did not think about great achievements, but when the athlete began to succeed in triple jumps, she realized that she could build a professional career in figure skating.

Kira was one of the most promising figure skaters of the Moscow region: she won the championship of the Moscow region and became a medalist of the tournament many times, thanks to which she joined the regional team. Trofimova trained with Irina Smirnova and then moved to Plushenko’s Angels. According to the figure skater, there are all the conditions for the development of athletes and the support of the Olympic champion helps her a lot.

“I really like that Evgeniy Viktorovich’s athletes receive a variety of loads. Every day he gives us different tasks on the ice. For example, one day – triple jumps, another – weight training. On the third day we skate a lot of programs. When the weather is nice, we conduct general physical training in nature. A lot of interesting things! I really like the training conditions at Plushenko’s Angels,” Kira shared with the Championship.

“I don’t think I look like Kostornaya.” Interview with the brilliant junior Plushenko Kira Trofimova

For the first time, Trofimova managed to make a strong statement about herself at the junior skating competitions in 2023, where the girl showed her brilliant figure skating – Kira even began to be compared with Alena Kostornaya! At the stage of the Russian Junior Grand Prix in Ufa, the skater took bronze. Trofimova also performed well at the Russian Championships, where she took 6th place. Kira has not yet shown ultra-si elements, so it was difficult for her to fight for awards. Nevertheless, the figure skater managed to show herself almost at her maximum – she received 199.22 points, which is close to her personal record (at the Russian student Spartakiad in 2023 she scored 199.25 points). At the end of the season, Trofimova joined the country’s youth team.

Trofimova impresses with her charm and reminds Kostornaya with her skating

Kira’s superpower can be called charm. The figure skater attracts the attention of spectators with her charm and charisma. Trofimova is very artistic. Last season, in the short program, Plushenko’s student skated to the passionate music of “Moulin Rouge”, and in the free program – to the lyrical “I’m Not There” by Sevara. Kira managed to convey both images organically. It is already clear: Trofimova is a versatile figure skater who is capable of experimentation. Plushenko’s student is often compared to Alena Kostornaya: the skaters are united by cool gliding and a smooth skating style.

“I have a positive attitude towards comparisons with Alena Kostornaya. I don’t think I’m anything like her. She is very individual in terms of her skating style and, one might say, unique. She is a great figure skater,” Kira admitted. Trofimova even managed to work a little with Kostornaya: the European champion helped the skater with choreography. Kira was impressed by their cooperation: the girl said that Alena dresses in unique things.

In addition to skating, Trofimova is also developing in the jump. The skater’s triples are consistently achieved and she definitely has a foundation for quads. Kira began her path of learning quads with the Lutz: all last season the skater had problems with this jump, which eventually led to her injury. After recovering, Trofimova did not abandon the idea of adding a quad to her arsenal, but this time she chose a simpler element – a quad sheepskin coat. Her skater managed to qualify quite quickly, Kira even risked qualifying with him for the Russian championship in jumping, but her only attempt ended in a fall. Towards the end of the season, Trofimova began to include the quad in the program.

Trofimova is inspired by Kostornaya, Medvedeva and Trusova and has long dreamed of skating

In figure skating, Kira is inspired by several skaters: “Alena Kostornaya, also Evgeniy Viktorovich Plushenko, I admire my head coach. I admire Evgenia Medvedev – I really like the way she skates. Very beautiful. Alexandra Trusova impresses a lot with her variety of jumps in the program.” Trofimova is also inspired by Elizaveta Tuktamysheva – the figure skater would like to have the same long career. Among her favorite women’s singles skating programs, Kira singles out Alena Kostornaya’s “Twilight” and Evgenia Medvedeva’s “Anna Karenina.”

Kira loves figure skating so much that she would like to keep it in her life forever. After finishing her studies, Trofimova dreams of becoming a coach to pass on her knowledge and skills to children.

In her free time, Kira does crafts: knitting, drawing, sculpting. In her free time, which the skater does not have much of, she likes to walk. Trofimova studies at an online school.

Kira sees Olympic gold as her main goal in sport. The next Games that the figure skater will be able to attend will take place in 2030 in the French Alps. But when it comes to choosing them, Trofimova will have many serious competitors; we have already talked about some of them in the special project “Supernova-2030”.
