“It was easier than I thought.” Fury looks for excuses after loss to Usyk

Date: July 2, 2024 Time: 20:39:35

On May 18, a great evening of professional boxing took place in Riyadh, in which the fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between Tyson Fury and Alexander Usik was played. The fight turned out to be quite emotional, there was even a fall, the boxers took turns taking the initiative and, as expected, covered the entire distance of the fight.

As a result, Usik won by split decision, becoming the first absolute kingweight world champion in the 21st century. It’s been over a month since the fight, but Fury doesn’t seem to have let go and continues to talk about how the fight went and how it could have ended. While still in the ring, Tyson said that he won this fight, and now Gypsy King talked about this fight in some detail.

“The fight turned out to be easier than I thought. People said it was difficult to hit Usyk. But I accused him of being a series of multiple hits. It was too easy. It was like he was fighting a local amateur boxer! I’ve seen the fight many times. Every time I come to the same conclusion: I won. Usyk knows he didn’t beat me. In most of the rounds I took his head off. He broke my nose in the eighth round and then made it 10-8 in the ninth. Plus I’m ready to give it the tenth round. But other than that, I didn’t see him win any other rounds. Three rounds, one of which counts as two. Four rounds! That’s it,” Fury says.

Let’s move on to the judges’ notes. The judges apparently disagree with Tyson. The first gave Usik seven rounds, the second five, the third six. That is to say, in principle, the fight was quite even according to the notes, but the fall decided everything. The interesting thing is that Usik’s style really resembles that of an amateur, and questions are increasingly being raised about how long he will continue to win. So far everything is working.

Fury does not recognize Usik’s superiority that night and believes his behavior in the ring is to blame. Tyson was fooling around and couldn’t stop in time: “Yes, I lost. But there is no point in crying over something that has already happened. Everything is in the past. And I believe that nothing happens for nothing. God had a different plan. I thought he was ready to win though. I lost by split decision, but it didn’t affect me at all. Even if I were absolute champion, I would do everything the same as I do now. I take the kids to school, pick up the dog poop and run. Why did you lose to Usik? The problem is that I was having too much fun. I laughed at him right in the ring! I enjoyed the fight too much, I started having fun and I paid dearly in the ninth round. They always tell me: “Never combine work with fun.” And he always responded with the middle finger, but in the end he came back to bite me.”

Usik and Fury will have a rematch in December, and this fight promises to be even more emotional. Tyson repeats that he has nothing personal towards his opponent, but an unfair defeat, in his opinion, can raise the temperature of the confrontation. The Gypsy King is already preparing and sincerely believes in the judicial conspiracy: “I will have to knock him out, because they will not give me the victory by decision. This is bad, because it’s not easy to win anyway, let alone knock out. But I am confident and looking forward to challenging myself. I heard Usyk’s jaw and eye socket were broken. So let him recover. See you in December.”

After the defeat, they practically stopped believing in Fury. There is an opinion that the rematch will be meaningless, since Tyson began to give up. However, the British fighting spirit can change a lot. He has never lost as a professional before, so coming back from a loss is new for Fury. We need to increase our aggression to defeat Usyk. The question is, is Tyson ready for this? He’s still interested in fighting for money, but how interested is he in getting his act together and getting the titles back from him? Statements about unfair defeats and that it was too easy in the ring with Usyk do not inspire confidence in Fury’s preparation.

On December 21, all questions will be answered in the rematch. Meanwhile, Tyson cleverly draws attention to himself.
