Six KHL regular season games were played on September 17. Let’s summarize them.
A week and a half ago, the teams met in Mytishchi, and then the “dragons” managed to snatch victory in overtime. This time there was no extra time, and today there was mainly one team on the ice at the Fetisov Arena.
The Sailors took a two-goal lead at the end of the sixth minute: Petukhov and Shulak beat Jeremy Smith twice in a short interval. Even before the end of the first period, Kunlun pulled one back. The first goal in the KHL was scored by Rourke Chartier, who completed his team’s combination in the majority.

It seemed that the intrigue in the match was going to rekindle, but instead the game became as one-sided as possible. The “Admiral” eliminated all questions about the winner in the second twenty minutes, hitting Smith’s goal three times, and in the third period scored two more times, hitting Konstantin Volkov.

Having gained momentum after a disastrous start, Sibir hosted the leaders of the Eastern Conference – in this state Neftekhimik came to Novosibirsk, having lost only one of five matches at the start of the season.
Wolves quickly found themselves in the role of catch-up: just 17 seconds after the first throw-in, Vladislav Kara opened the scoring, scoring for the second game in a row in a jersey with a snowflake. The visitors reacted just as quickly at the start of the second half: seven seconds after the break were enough for Fedor Gordeev to be sent off and two minutes later Oleg Leontyev’s team took the lead.
But that was where the Nizhnekamsk team’s success ended: even before going to the locker room, Sibir scored three times, forcing the Neftekhimik coach to replace the goalkeeper, and in the third period Kara scored a double and set the final score of the match at 5:2 – Siberia’s third consecutive victory in the 1000th match in the KHL and the second defeat for the leaders of the East.

Until today, Barys was the main loser at the start of the KHL season: the Kazakh team had only one point after four games and was at the bottom of the standings.
After defeating Salavat three days earlier, Avtomobilist had the opportunity to climb to the top of the East in case of victory. However, the Yekaterinburg team came down to earth rather quickly: Kirill Savitsky opened the scoring already in the 32nd second. The locals recovered only in the second half, and at the second attempt the referees did not count Maxim Denezhkin’s goal, but Nick Merkley scored legitimately.
The fate of the match was decided in extra time: Nikolai Zavarukhin’s team failed to take advantage of their chance and conceded on the counterattack. The winning goal was scored by Michael MacLeod, who gave Barys their first win of the season and knocked the reigning champions Metallurg down to last place.

Salavat needed to rehabilitate after the crushing defeat in Yekaterinburg, and the Ufa team did a pretty good job of this. At the first break the score was 2:1: Ildan Gazimov and Artyom Pimenov, with an interval of two minutes, allowed their team to establish a comfortable lead, but shortly before going to the locker room, Semyon Chistyakov reduced it to a minimum.
Halfway through the second 20 minutes, Alexey Vasilevsky doubled the home team’s lead again, and then a very terrible moment occurred: Salavat striker Gleb Kuzmin was thrown to the side after being pushed by Darren Dietz and was forced to leave on a stretcher. “Now they have reported that everything is very serious there. It is a very big loss for us,” Viktor Kozlov said at a press conference.
Without Kuzmin, Kozlov’s team was able to maintain the winning result: in the third period, they responded to Damir Sharipzyanov’s goal with a well-aimed shot from Alexander Sharov. 4:2 – Salavat tied the score with the leader Neftekhimik in the East, but Avangard suffered a third consecutive defeat after a good start.

After defeats in the first two matches, Lada went on a good run, managed to score two victories and performed well in the away match against SKA, taking a point from the military team. Now the Togliatti team went to Yaroslavl to face Lokomotiv, which won the first direct confrontation with a score of 3-0.
Today’s match turned out to be more close: despite the Railwaymen’s big advantage in the game, goals in this match were much more difficult for them. During the entire meeting there were only two: Kraskovsky and Radulov provided the necessary result for Igor Nikitin’s charges. Andrey Altybarmakyan’s goal in the middle of the third period had no effect: Lokomotiv retained the victory and returned to the top not only of the Western Conference, but of the entire league.

Dynamo are still having problems at the start of the season. After five matches, the blue-and-whites have only four points thanks to victories over Severstal and their team from Minsk. CSKA, with losses in the last two games, did not get so far: the rebuilding army team at the same stage scored only one more point.
Here we had to wait for the goal almost until the end of the second half, when Nikita Gusev realized Dynamo’s numerical advantage. It was not possible to maintain concentration until the end of the third: four seconds before the siren sounded, Pavel Karnaukhov, also thanks to the majority conversion, equalized the score.
The third quarter was entirely in the hands of Ilya Vorobyov’s team: Iskhakov had the majority and Kamenev contributed two points to the red-and-blues. Ivan Drozdov is worth mentioning: the Belarusian forward scored his first points for his performance in the military jersey, assisting in the second and third goals of his team.
