Many people were waiting for matchday 12 because of a specific match. While the best team of the season, Krasnodar, visited the unpredictable and unstable Spartak. Although there was no serious fight on the field, it was a special test for the referees. Spoiler: they took care of it. What about the rest?
Especially for the “Championship”, our expert, former RPL referee Igor Fedotov, analyzed the refereeing in the 12th round of the Russian Championship. Below is his examination of the eight matches.
The maximum score is 8.5. The referee receives it if he directs the game without errors.
The score is reduced to 7.9 if the referee makes a key error: incorrectly or not awarding a penalty kick, showing or not showing a straight red (to a player or members of the coaching staff), showing or not showing a second . Yellow card (to a player or members of the coaching staff).
In case of a second key error, 0.5 points are deducted.
0.1 point is deducted for incorrectly showing or not showing a yellow card (to a player or members of the coaching staff), as well as for missing three to five violations.
A point is deducted if the referee in the VAR points out an error by the referee on the field, but the referee confirms his incorrect decision despite watching the replay.
The score in parentheses is the score of a referee who made a key error in the match, but worked well without that error.

Bulanov hasn’t worked for a long time. Well judged. In the 37th minute, the game continued correctly: the ball hit the Akron footballer’s hand, but was hidden behind his back. And he also correctly showed the second yellow card to Savicheva for rough play. During Zenit’s attack, he rolled under his rival and did not move his legs, although he could have done so.

“Akhmat” – “Fakel” – 2:3
It is not an easy match for Bezborodov. In the 43rd minute, the footballer Fakel played a header in the area and the opponent wanted to clear the ball. From Bezborodov’s position it looked like there was contact and he awarded a free kick to Fakel. The VAR analyzed where the infringement occurred and if there was any. It is not a foul for them because there was no contact as such. They worked correctly, no need to think about anything. Bezborodov watched the replay and there could have been two decisions: a free kick for dangerous play and a dropped ball. Bezborodov chose the second option, although here both decisions would have been correct. This is not a mistake, but simply an initially incorrect interpretation of the infringement.
Then Bezborodov did not show the yellow card to the footballer Fakel due to lack of respect for the game. He openly pushed his opponent, who was running towards the open area, from behind. It was necessary to punish.
In the 75th minute, Bezborodov, who was in a good position, awarded a penalty. I think the VAR verified the naturalness of the Torch player’s movement when he fell. For me this is also a penalty, because the Akhmat footballer grabbed his opponent by the shoulder and took his hand away only when he saw that he was starting to fall. Yes, the striker added some paint, but that’s his job. There were reasons for the 11 meters.
In the 84th minute, Bezborodov correctly showed the second yellow card to footballer Fakel for rough play. Jump, palm on the shoulder and move the elbow towards the head. Everything is correct.

“Paris NN” – “Rostov” – 1:1
In the 28th minute, Meshkov showed no yellow card to the Paris NN player for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Rostov footballer passed the ball and went to open it, but the rival covered it with his hands. Why this is not a violation for Meshkov, I do not know.
About the penalty in the 89th minute. The Rostov player played the ball and the opponent hit his knee. Meshkov reasoned that these were reckless actions. The decision is correct, but if this is the interpretation, then it was necessary to secure it with a yellow card so that everyone understood and did not start all kinds of conversations in the spirit of “how strong was the contact” and “what was in the head of Meshkov.”

The new person is Ziyakov. They dragged him for a long time and finally gave him an RPL match. And it worked well. But Nenakhov had to be given a yellow card, who tripped him and body-slammed his rival as he ran towards the attack. Ziyakov continued the game, although at similar moments he whistled and punished.
Ziyakov’s score is 8.3.

Excellent work by Levnikov. I consider him one of the best at this point of the season. It was a good decision by the management to keep him for one round so that he could prepare for this match. Everything is correct and fluid.
The only thing I didn’t like was the repetitions in the broadcast. In general, it is not clear where the ball hit the Spartak player at the end of the first half. They then showed an angle from behind the door, where it was clear that the hand was in a natural position. So in this case too Levnikov’s decision is correct.

Dinamo Makhachkala – CSKA – 0:1
In the fourth minute, Ivanov did not show a yellow card to the CSKA player for interrupting a promising attack. I don’t know what motivated him. Maybe he thought it wasn’t worth it at the beginning of the match. But this is relevant when talking about a borderline foul and the opportunity to engage in conversation. For me, this is a mistake by Ivanov and a yellow card.
In the 58th minute, Ivanov scored CSKA’s goal. The Dynamo player is to blame. He wanted to block Musaev, but he resisted and used his hands a little so as not to break his chest. Normal combat on his part. It was the Dynamo player who violated the rules. It would be nice if Ivanov showed the advantage principle so that everyone would go crazy.

Mashlyakevich is also a new face in the RPL. And here are two key episodes. First: why didn’t the referee see Costanza’s flight phase? There is speed, finishing and a kick to the knee. From an open position everything had to be evaluated immediately, but the VAR had to be turned on. Only after this did Mashlyakevich eliminate the Wings player.
The second key episode was the 11-meter penalty in the 70th minute. For me, this moment is the same as Erokhin’s in St. Petersburg. In my opinion, the game should have continued here. But the VAR intervened and Mashlyakevich awarded a penalty. They are two identical episodes: in one the judge saw everything, in the other he did not. But why does VAR intervene in both cases? I asked the department a question and they responded that they had now decided to impose penalties of 11 meters for those moments. Since here the defender stays still, he does not try to play the ball and pushes with his hands the footballer who jumps for the ball.
Five new referees appeared in the RPL during the year. This is 15 percent of the total. Whenever someone sat on the VAR and someone was eliminated. That is, the department moved people. Good job updating the evaluation.

In the 35th minute, a Rubin player stuck his hand to the side and the ball hit. Sukhoi continued the match, but changed the decision after VAR intervention and awarded a penalty. It is not clear why I did not see it immediately. A simple episode, a simple decision, an open position.
In the second minute, Sukhoi, being in a good position, awarded a penalty to the Rubin goal. This is a trip and a careless foul.
