The first week of the Dota championship was dedicated to the play-in, the first stage of the Riyadh Masters 2024, in which the weakest teams were eliminated from the competition. Unfortunately, one of them turned out to be Russian. Virtus.pro.
The Bears, to the surprise of the experts, performed well in the first matches of the tournament. However, in the decisive match, VP’s gameplay collapsed and the team lost to the European team MOUZ 0-2, stopping one step away from advancing to the next stage.
In addition to Virtus.pro, following the results of the play-in, teams such as the North American nouns, as well as the Chinese Azure Ray and G2.iG left Riyadh. The failure of the latter became the first sensation of the competition.

As part of the second week of play at Riyadh Masters 2024, the best teams from the play-in were joined by the best teams that received direct invites to the event, including, for example, the Russian team. Team spirit AND BetBoom Team.
The first day of the group stage was a real treat for Dota fans in our region. Both Team Spirit and BetBoom Team started their performance in the tournament with confident victories. But, unfortunately, this was where the success of the Russian teams in the groups ended.
The Spirits, in their best tradition, finished all the remaining matches of Group A with a score of 1:1, and it did not matter whether the Dragons played against the favorite or the outsider. Despite the large number of draws, Team Spirit easily qualified for the upper bracket of the playoffs, finishing in second place in the group stage.

But BetBoom Team could not even boast of such a result. After the defeat to Xtreme Gaming on the second day of play, the Russian team seemed to have lost the game. BB lost to the favorites without resistance and had a hard time winning draws with outsiders.
Only in the decisive match against Tundra Esports, captained by former BetBoom Team player Ivan Pure Moskalenko, did the Russian team manage to draw and avoid replays for the right to continue playing in the tournament. But will BB be able to show something in the playoffs with such a game? We will find out soon.

With the exception of the BetBoom Team, the rest of the nominal favorites for the Riyadh Masters 2024 confidently qualified for the upper draw. I would especially like to point out Team Hawkswho, after starting in the group with a score of 0:4, managed to gather strength and emerge victorious. The character of the champions is immediately visible!
Some great gameplay was also shown. Entity AND Tundra Sports Group B, whose rosters also include Russians. Moreover, it was between the representatives of these two teams that a conflict arose at the tournament, in which one of the cybersportsmen “slapped” his opponent, for which he was fined $8,000. We hope they will meet in the playoffs and the drama will continue!

As for the teams that left the competition at the end of the second stage, they were expected to be play-in teams: HEROIC, Beastcoast, Blacklist International and MOUZ, who had the worst performance of all, taking only two games in the group. Yes, yes, the same MOUZ that eliminated Virtus.pro from the tournament.
As a result, out of the 12 playoff participants, seven teams from Europe, two Russian teams, two teams from China and one from Southeast Asia will compete for the championship title. Regions such as North and South America were left without representatives at the Riyadh Masters 2024.
