The year 2024 has arrived, which promises to be a turning point in the world of professional boxing. So, the day before there was news that Dmitry Bivol had signed a contract for a fight with Artur Beterbiev. But, unfortunately, not all the news is rosy. Everyone was eagerly awaiting the return of Gennady Golovkin, who had not appeared in the ring for a long time. But, apparently, the boxer decided to quietly leave professional sports.

Golovkin’s last fight took place on September 17, 2022. Then Gennady fought Saul Alvarez, looked decent, but still lost by unanimous decision 112-116, 113-115 (twice). This was GGG’s debut at super middleweight. It seemed that after this the representative of Kazakhstan would conquer a new division. But instead, Golovkin relinquished his WBA, IBF and IBO titles. Even then, thoughts arose that Gennady would no longer step into the ring.
And now well-known boxing insider Rick Glazer has delivered some unpleasant news. He said GGG had apparently finally left professional boxing, and he did so in English: “GGG hasn’t fought since losing to Canelo 16 months ago, voluntarily relinquished all of his world titles, turned down several lucrative offers and will turn 42 in April. It seems that GGG simply pulled out, but without an official announcement. He will leave a great legacy.”
Golovkin’s career turned out to be truly glorious. He has a professional record of 42-2-1 (37 KOs). And this is if you do not take into account the fact that Gennady has 350 amateur fights, in which he managed to achieve 345 victories. But frankly, in recent years things have been going downhill. Everyone admitted that Golovkin’s performances were increasingly difficult to watch. And Canelo’s last defeat, unfortunately, was absolutely natural.
Another question is why Golovkin simply disappeared. Very soon Gennady will turn 42 years old. It can hardly be said that an athlete needs to prove something to someone. On the contrary, the career of the representative of Kazakhstan turned out to be so glorious that not even Alvarez’s defeats could erase it. It seems that the only possible objective left is another duel with Saúl. But whether a fourth fight is necessary in this matchup is a big question.

Basically, Glazer left Golovkin no choice. He will now have to officially refute these words or announce his withdrawal. Otherwise, fans may not fully understand Gennady. I would like to hope that the main informant is still wrong. And GGG will enter the ring at least one more time to show himself in all his splendor.
