The final personal race in Krasnoyarsk had it all: mistakes, falls and triumphs.
The individual race programme of the summer Alfa-Bank Biathlon Championships of Russia ended with the women’s sprint. The athletes again kept the race going until the last starting number. After all, the best biathlete of the country in the last two years entered the race with number 54.
He is afraid of skaters, but he fights for victory.
Anastasia Egorova from the Murmansk region was leading the race at the start. After the first shooting range, she was six seconds ahead of her closest rivals.
And Anastasia was close to the second milestone as the leader. But a mistake in the standing position caused the athlete to fall to fourth place, almost 20 seconds behind Victoria Slivko, who had shot cleanly.
Anastasia later admitted that she is afraid of roller skiing and always looks forward to the end of the summer season.
Hard fall and less intrigue.
The second throw eliminated Khalili from the medal race: two mistakes in the standing position and in eighth place, which the fast Anastasia later rescued and finished fifth.
But luck on the podium favoured Tamara Derbusheva and Elizaveta Kaplina. The girls made a mistake in the first stage, but in the second they perfectly overcame it. As a result, both of them came close to Victoria, literally and figuratively.
Tamara finished in second place and Elizaveta won her first medal in two tournaments of the new season.
Natalia Shevchenko, who looked pale at the Commonwealth Cup after the Sochi training camp and her illness, is gaining form with each race. And the sprint only confirmed this.

Shevchenko came out last and could have been involved in the medal fight, but after the second mistake, the former skier ran to the penalty loop, where in the heat of the fight she fell and suffered severe abrasions on her leg and arm. Overcoming the pain and losing seconds, Shevchenko immediately entered the race, but still could not improve her result and closed the flower ceremony.

And Victoria Slivko won, who shouldn’t have entered the race. But she went out and won!
“The coach and I thought for a long time: to run or not to run, but we decided to run anyway. And what a success, so Andrei Viktorovich (Padin. – Note from the “Championship”), thank you very much for believing in me. There were doubts, because before these competitions I had only been training for a month and was seriously ill,” said the champion after the final on Match TV.
