A tragedy almost occurred in Germany. On Sunday afternoon, a man armed with a pickaxe and a Molotov cocktail first tried to force his way through a crowd of Dutch national team fans and then attacked the police.
According to Bild, some 40,000 Dutch people walked along Hamburg’s Reeperbahn before the game against Poland. Police found a suspicious man with a pickaxe in his hand and a Molotov cocktail. Law enforcement believes he may have been in the crowd and detonated an incendiary mixture.
However, the incident was avoided. The criminal was identified and an operation was carried out against him. Although the man clearly had no intention of giving up and tried to attack the security forces with a pickaxe. The attempt failed, after which he decided to escape. The police asked him to leave the gun and the Molotov cocktail on the ground. He said no. After which warning shots were fired, to which there was no reaction either. And then, shoot towards the criminal. Bild claims that the man was shot in the leg. Currently nothing is known about his condition.
“The attacker is currently receiving medical attention in the hospital. So far we see no signs that this story has a connection to football. It is said that around 200 police officers are currently working to quell the unrest on the streets of Hamburg, in addition to being assisted by federal services.
