Today, August 26, another UFC Fight Night tournament in Singapore ended. In the main event of the night, former promotional featherweight champion Max Holloway faced off against Chung Chang Sung, known to all as the Korean Zombie.
It’s worth noting that this fight was almost a direct request from Max. After defeating Arnold Allen in April, Holloway said he wanted the Korean to compete. The Blessed One explained this by saying that he had never fought Zombies, even though they act around the same time. Chung accepted the challenge, even though he was already thinking of retiring after losing to Alex Volkanovski.

For Holloway, this is another chance to fight for the title again. In the featherweight division, dual power has long reigned supreme. Volkanovski beats Max three times and doesn’t let him win the belt, and he, in turn, knocks down all the new contenders and doesn’t let them even have a title shot. The Aussie has already joked that he hopes Holloway will move up to lightweight so he will stop beating his rivals. Max generally doesn’t mind gaining weight and he was already thinking that out loud. However, there is a caveat: he wants to do it as a featherweight champion.
True, for a start it was necessary to deal with the Korean zombie. Even though he was an underdog and an MMA veteran, he still hits very hard and can cause a lot of trouble. But we remember that Holloway has a strong jaw and is ready for trades, which means the show was guaranteed.
The first minute and a half the fighters dedicated to reconnoitring and finding the right distance. And then more active actions began, provoked by the Koreans. Holloway gladly accepted the trades, reminding him that he couldn’t be captured by those methods. Max tried to attack in various ways, not forgetting to work the body, but the zombie in response threatened to attack with an attack, which he often went through.
In the second lap we saw a brilliant show. Jung Chang Sung expected to follow the same tactic, but Holloway was already ready and sent his opponent to the canvas with a powerful blow. The only thing that saved the zombies was that Max believed in a deaf knockout and wavered, whereupon he tried to choke himself. The Koreans held out and then rallied and even tried to counterattack. However, Holloway was clearly better and took the round hands down.
From the first second of the third round, Zombie showed that he was alive and wanted to go into a no-compromise cabin. Max always accepts these challenges and this time he accepted them too. A few seconds into the most brutal exchanges, and the Blessed dropped the opponent with a right hook in a deadly knockout.
Rejoicing in the victory, Holloway came to help his opponent, expressed his utmost respect and thanked him for the fight. The duel was magnificent, the wrestlers showed themselves in all their splendor and deservedly received a standing ovation. By the way, this is Holloway’s first finish since 2018.
Immediately after the fight, Jung Chan Sung announced his retirement and folded his gloves in the center of the octagon. The room fired the legendary fighter with a standing ovation. And he was well deserved and very beautiful. Well, Holloway is off to another title race.
