The recent duel between Devin Haney and Vasily Lomachenko for the undisputed lightweight world champion title turned out to be as rowdy as it gets. The Ukrainian veteran, for whom few bet, gave a beating to the current champion, who surpassed him in youth and size. It seemed to most fans and pundits that Lomachenko deserved to win, but all the judges unanimously recognized Haney as the winner.
After such a result, Vasily could not hold back his tears in the locker room, and his team filed a protest against the referee’s decision, although they understood that this would not lead to anything. It is logical that Lomachenko, in addition, demanded immediate revenge from Haney. At first, he proudly refused, declaring that he had won unconditionally. But then Haney’s father admitted that he was already talking to promoters about a second fight against Lomachenko. It seemed that revenge was inevitable, but then criminal circumstances intervened.
The other day, Haney was arrested in California on charges of possession of a weapon. Police found an unregistered semi-automatic pistol in a car owned by Devin – the boxer himself was in the passenger seat at the time. Haney had to spend the night in jail, from where he was released, having posted $35,000 bail. It is curious that the champion paid approximately the same amount as a fine when he pushed Lomachenko during the sterdown. Then Devin was outraged for a long time about the lost dollars, but now he is silent.

Jokes aside, but now he threatens a possible revenge with Lomachenko. In August, Haney will have a trial, which he is required to attend in person. The boxer faces a prison sentence of up to one year. Of course, Devin is unlikely to receive maximum punishment, but even a few months behind bars can put an end to a meeting with a Ukrainian. Vasily is not getting any younger, now literally every day counts for him. Let’s just hope Devin gets out unscathed and still decides to get revenge.
