The KHL board of directors held a meeting in Moscow today, where the new composition of the participants was approved and a president was appointed. Immediately after the end of the official event, the president of the league, Alexei Morozov, traditionally answered questions from journalists.

Timchenko’s re-election
“I would like to thank all members of the KHL Board of Directors for the re-election of Gennady Timchenko as the new president. We feel comfortable working with him and this is in the interest of the development of the league.”
Will there be an Azerbaijani club in the KHL?
“We did not communicate with Mikhail Degtyarev (Russian Minister of Sports – Championship note) about this, there was no such conversation between us. The league is seeking to expand to many currently friendly countries. But not all of these countries have venues that suit us. To expand it, careful work needs to be done long before the start of the season. It needs to be worked out in detail. Many things are tied to regulations. We do not want such presentations to be a burden on the league. This should happen in order to popularize hockey in the league.”

“Just today I received information that Barys has a small problem with debts, but the club management is committed to closing this issue by the end of the month. We will keep an eye on it.”
The situation with Zaseda
“Of course, we have communicated with all parties, our lawyers have not seen any violations of the regulations on the part of Spartak. They want to exchange the player for someone who will help them achieve victories. As stated in the disciplinary commission, they have not received any proposals, except for the conversation about the amount of 9 million. We are a commercial league and the redistribution of players also occurs based on the market.
An agreement can only be reached at the negotiating table. The Disciplinary Committee is examining whether there were violations of the regulations. It is chaired by a lawyer. It does not deal with the sporting aspect of the dispute.”

“It is impossible to spread all the important matches over different days, because our clubs travel and these matches have to be played every other day. Clubs cannot be stuck travelling for two days. That is how it works. But it is good that there are more and more interesting matches that you want to watch.”

Razin’s behavior and his words about Leontyev.
“I understand that such statements do not sit well with Razin. And this does not look good throughout the league. But before we had an ethics committee, it was attached to the FHR and our lawyers were part of it.
We are now taking our position on ethics. We will monitor these kinds of things and call if we see that an episode worth mentioning has occurred. Then we will impose fines.”
