The transfer of Alexander Sobolev from Spartak to Zenit is the biggest transfer of the summer in the RPL. A whirlwind of opinions has formed in the media: some support the striker, others condemn him. Spartak fans curse Alexander, Zenit fans greeted the newcomer without much enthusiasm. But what if Sobolev still had a compelling reason for deciding to take such a step?

In the Injustice Premier League podcast, championship journalist Andrei Pankov shared a story related to the former Spartak striker. At the end of the 2023/2024 season, Sobolev had a conversation with a person from the club’s management. The topic is the discussion of plans for the new championship. Alexander was invited to act as one of the main players.
The conversation was difficult and loud. Sobolev expressed his dissatisfaction with the composition of the team. During the conversation, the footballer said: “With this squad, you can’t win anything.”

Alexander said this without any bad intentions, but simply stating a fact. And this statement from the striker was passed on to the team by one of the directors. At the next training session of the red-and-white team, Sobolev received sidelong glances from his teammates.
Could Alexander stay at Spartak in such an atmosphere? The question is debatable. At least we know one of the reasons why the striker’s story at Spartak ended.
