This week Saint Petersburg will host the second summit and the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum. Within two days, dozens of debates and round tables will be held here, in which the participants will discuss all aspects of the interaction between our country and the southern continent.
Of course, one of the hot topics for discussion will be the issue of food safety. The UN estimates that 278 million Africans suffer from chronic hunger, that’s one in five people on the continent. At the same time, 60% of Africa’s fertile land is not used. The growth potential is enormous. That is why many African countries view Russia not only as a supplier of food, but also as a partner that can help with the development of agricultural infrastructure and agricultural technologies.
A panel discussion on food security will open the program of the Russia-Africa forum on July 27. The president of the Industrial Union of the New Commonwealth Konstantin Babkin, the president of the Russian Association of Fertilizer Producers Andrey Guryev, the chairman of the board of directors of Rosselkhozbank Boris Listov, the president of Afreximyuan Okey Orama and other participants will attend.
