CEOE claims “responsibility” to form a stable and moderate government

Date: July 27, 2024 Time: 07:05:38

The business associations CEOE and CEPYME have responded to the result of the general elections asking for “responsibility” from the different political formations that make up the new Parliament. The businessmen demand to reach agreements that guarantee “the highest possible level of stability” and “the necessary moderation” given the need to maintain “the good progress of the economy” and that “the sense of State and respect for the constitutional framework prevail,” according to a statement sent today.

At the same time, and in view of the indications of different members of the Government already in office, both organizations have demanded “that the attacks that have been affecting the institutional sphere cease definitively” and showed their “will to collaborate with the business fabric” with the Government that it finally ends in agreement during “the complex months and years that lie ahead”.

CEOE and CEPYME consider that “the Spanish economy envisions a slowdown scenario that will foreseeably become more apparent after the summer” due to a cocktail of events such as the geopolitical tensions derived from the war in Ukraine, the impact of restrictive monetary policy and high inflation on consumption and investment by Spanish families and companies.

To try to alleviate it, they call for measures to strengthen the country’s ability to “face uncertain economic situations.” Among these, considering the rebalancing of public accounts, a new tax system “to help improve the competitiveness of our companies”, promote the green and digital industry or promote professional training linked to the needs of companies.

In its statement, the business community also calls for “Spanish companies to be valued as generators of social and economic progress”, and defends social dialogue as “fundamental infrastructure to undertake this joint work that Spain is ahead of due to its success” given the “good results it has always given in terms of well-being and social peace”.

The self-employed employer claims to “talk a lot”

The Association of Autonomous Workers (ATA) also calls for the responsibility of all parliamentary forces to reach agreements that guarantee the political, social and economic stability that the country needs. The entity led by Lorenzo Amor considers that the results obtained from the general elections concluded on Sunday leave Spain with an “uncertain outlook” when it comes to starting a stable government.

“In the coming days, all the political groups will have to talk, talk a lot, listen and see what possibilities of agreement can be reached. It is necessary for the sense of State to prevail in order to preserve the economic and social progress achieved,” the president stated in a statement.

The association has reiterated its request that all the necessary formulas be sought to form a stable government that generates confidence. “The blockade and having to repeat elections without it would be a very complicated option for the self-employed and for all citizens that would directly affect the economy,” warned Lorenzo Amor.
