Kenan Yildiz made history twice with one hit.
The Champions League is back. And it did so as it should: wonderfully. The first two matches of the day are Juventus vs PSV and Young Boys vs Aston Villa. Each pair had a clear favourite, so the first goals were expected to come from Juve or Villa. And the Turin side did not disappoint.
The home side, as expected, were more active in attack. They scored twice from the 21st to the 27th minute. The first goal of the new Champions League was scored by the hosts’ Turkish midfielder Kenan Yildiz. It turned out to be very beautiful: all the way to the far nine and even off the post. As the match commentator Vladislav Prusov said: “A phenomenal shot, no chance for the goalkeeper.”
Yildiz’s goal was historic for another reason: Kenan is now the youngest player to score for Juve in a European competition. The midfielder scored the goal at the age of 19 years and 136 days, surpassing the feat of the legendary Alessandro Del Piero, who scored a goal at the age of 20 years and 308 days in 1995. By the way, Del Piero loves the young Yildiz very much and was grateful that he had been given the number 10. It is symbolic that the goal against PSV was exactly in Del Piero’s style: he really loved such shots.
After Yildiz’s goal, McKennie also scored. And at the end of the half, Kopmeyners almost made it big: it was just a few centimetres away.
