The Royal Club seemed to be the clear favourites for this match. The reigning champions of the main European Cup are looking to defend their title and are not hiding their ambitions. Stuttgart had an excellent season last season, beating Bayern in the final round of the Bundesliga and finishing second. But they are still far from reaching the level of Real Madrid.
The German side, to their credit, gave Real Madrid a run for their money despite the huge difference in class. The Spaniards opened the scoring early in the second half: Kylian Mbappé scored his first Champions League goal for Los Blancos. Stuttgart, however, equalised thanks to the efforts of Deniz Undava. However, the home side eventually secured victory thanks to goals from Antonio Rudiger and substitute Endrik.
In the parallel match, Bayern crushed Dinamo Zagreb at home, sending nine goals into the Croatian goal (9:2). English striker Harry Kane scored four goals.
