“There is a record,” the federal state institution “Baikal Region Reserve” stated today and published the first images of the site of the extraordinary immersion.
A more detailed story about the vertical swimming record should appear on February 29 on several TV channels and on the online resources of the Russian Apnea Federation.
As they said in the reserve, a few kilometers from the Olkhon Gate Strait, on the western edge of the lake, a hole was made in the ice for the St. Petersburg woman. The record was set within the framework of the first winter freediving festival “Under the Baikal Ice”. It started the day before and will run until March 4.
In addition to Maria, 14 swimmers plan to break records in the lake. The organizers are preparing master classes for freediving lovers from world stars of this sport: Guinness Book record holders and championship winners.
