The circulation of Renfe trains on the C1 line between Torrelavega and Los Corrales, in Cantabria, has been interrupted all morning due to the collision between two trains, which occurred around 9:00 p.m. at the Viérnoles stop.
Apparently, and according to Efe, a train without passengers that was found at the Renfe station in Torrelavega started its march because the brakes were not activated correctly, and after traveling a section of track in the direction of Los Corrales de Buelna collided at the Viérnoles halt with the Cercanías that was coming towards Torrelavega.
Alternative transportation plan for travelers
Renfe sources have explained to Efe that the low speed of the convoy and the intervention of company personnel who stopped and evacuated the Cercanías before the collision caused only material damage.

However, the incident made it necessary to suspend circulation during the early morning, until at 7:00 a.m. the passage of trains was restored. The company established an alternative transportation plan for travelers affected by road transfers during the time the road was closed.
