Acciona Energía builds its largest wind farm in North America in Canada

Date: July 27, 2024 Time: 06:44:49

Acciona Energía continues its expansion in North America following the announcement on Wednesday of the start of construction of Forty Mile, a 280-megawatt (MW) wind energy project located in the Canadian city of Alberta. The park is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2025 and will become its largest facility with these characteristics in the region.

As explained in a press release that collects Efe, the development of Forty Mile, an initiative that will have the potential to be expanded up to 400 MW in a second phase, has been carried out by Renewable Energy Systems Canada and will have 49 Nordex turbines. According to their data, the facility will create up to 250 jobs during peak construction and up to 25 permanent jobs once it becomes operational.

Ensuring optimal construction

Acciona Energía and Renewable Energy Systems Canada will work closely with all stakeholders, including local government bodies and landowners, to ensure development is optimally executed and to maximize the project’s positive impacts on the community.

The project is part of Acciona Energía’s social impact management program, which reinvests part of its annual income to support education, well-being and environmental care programs in the communities in which it operates. The company already owns and operates four wind farms in Canada, totaling more than 180 MW of wind power.
