Beautiful Gallipoli: A Guide to the Southern Italian City by Olga Kheifits

Our tourist program here is extremely simple: during the day we explore the beaches of the coast, in the evening – taverns and inns.

The first day is already late (too late for adults in their right mind): around noon we drink a very strong coffee on the hotel terrace and head to the port. Only there, if you are lucky, you can park your car for the night. Ours is in the sun, surrounded by a garbage dump, fishing nets and a broken payment machine.

After our morning coffee, we got into the car: our skin was burning, our heads were spinning, we opened the windows wide and drove away from the city to the pine-lined coast to the beach with the romantic name of G Beach, the best in these parts. The sea here is like a reward for everything: azure blue with white sand and no jellyfish at this time of year.

If you tone down the romantic tone a little, you can complain about the typically Italian service: paid toilets, showers, paid Internet on the beach, where a sun lounger costs fifty euros.

Nearby there is an equally famous, but much more ascetic beach club: Punto della Suina. But we chose a beach called C’est la vie, which turned out to be a compromise between the atmosphere of Saint-Tropez’s G beach and the asceticism of Punto della Suina, where you can’t even have a snack. By the way, C’est la vie has a very cool restaurant for lunch.
