According to him, on Friday night there were still countless fires that had not been extinguished, but the firefighters stopped the work. “Now we have to deal with contaminated firefighting water,” RIA Novosti quotes Wenzel.
Large barriers made of sandbags were erected to prevent the toxic liquid from flowing into the nearby Teltow Canal. The water is pumped and disposed of by a specialized company, added the representative of the firefighters.
Wenzel also said the cause of the fire has not yet been established.
Let us remember that the fire at the metallurgical plant of the Diehl defense industrial company became known the day before. The fire covered an area of 2 thousand square meters. Local residents received emergency alerts marked “danger” from the civil defense department. They were advised to avoid the area where the plant was burning, close windows and doors, and turn off the air conditioning and ventilation systems.
