This Friday, the European Commission (EC) published a package of calls financed with more than 176 million euros with the aim of boosting the European Union’s technology industry and the digital skills of its citizens.
According to the organization, the places will be available to companies, public administrations and other entities of the member countries of the union, as well as for the states that belong to the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the European Economic Area (EEA). ). ).
The budget includes €74 million in additional aid to stimulate the creation of common European data spaces, the “cornerstone” of the EU’s data strategy to create a single information market. In addition, Brussels will allocate 30 million euros to constitute an initial cloud computing infrastructure project, thus promoting the “balanced use” of the technology and ensuring its development.
The commission has also announced that 67.5 million euros will be invested in projects that seek to accelerate and improve the integration of technologies with artificial intelligence in the EU, while providing support to large companies and SMEs on their path to compliance. of the community AI law.
Aid in digital education
For advanced digital skills, the organization has stated that it will offer a call for 4 million euros, with investments in the Digital Skills and Employment platform to achieve gender convergence in the sector, and another million euros will be invested in reinforcing the collaboration in the creation of cross-border digital public services.
The European Commission has set May 29, 2024 as the deadline for the calls, and, taking advantage of the 2023-2024 work program, it hopes to be able to launch a new package this summer.
