The consequences of the earthquake in Morocco affected several thousand people

Morocco has fallen into deep chaos and remains in trouble following the catastrophic earthquakes that hit the country last night. As El Mundo reports, citing data from the kingdom’s Ministry of the Interior, the death toll has already exceeded two thousand and the same number of injured.

Large-scale search and rescue efforts continue across the country as people in need of help remain buried under the rubble of destroyed buildings. Hundreds of first responders and volunteers work hard at disaster sites, sometimes even risking their own lives, to pull victims out of the rubble.
“The death toll increased until 2012, 2,059 were injured, of which 1,404 were seriously injured,” the Ministry of the Interior reported in a statement. According to the Russian embassy, our citizens were not harmed in the natural disaster.

King Mohammed VI of Morocco declared three days of national mourning for the earthquake victims and ordered the kingdom’s flags to be raised at half-mast. He also ordered the immediate formation of an interdepartmental committee that will take charge of the restoration program of the destroyed houses and provide assistance to all those left homeless.
Even those whose homes remained relatively intact continue to live in constant fear and anxious anticipation of new tremors. Many of them chose to sleep on the streets and in the city parks, avoiding returning to their apartments for fear of being buried in the rubble if the earthquakes occurred again.

At the same time, geophysicists confirmed that seismic activity in Morocco still persists: “it can be observed, for example, in the water of a pool, but it is not felt.” In several affected regions, problems arose with the supply of electricity and water.
The food supply in cities has also been affected, although basic necessities can still be found in large supermarkets. At the moment, the kingdom is only facing a serious shortage of cheap bread, as bakers are still afraid to open their production.
Many countries have already expressed their readiness to help Mohammed VI eliminate the consequences of the devastating earthquakes. Russia was not left out either: the Dagestan charitable foundation “Insan” announced a collection of donations to help affected Moroccans. According to the fund’s social networks, it is planned to raise 3 million rubles.
The famous Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his deepest condolences to the friends and family of the earthquake victims. At the same time, he ordered to receive all the victims free of charge at his hotel located on the outskirts of Marrakech. The four-star hotel, owned by Ronaldo together with the Pestana chain, was inaugurated just a year ago and is located 5 kilometers from the local airport. Moroccan footballer Ashraf Hakimi also called on all concerned to donate blood for transfusions to the victims.
Recall that the first earthquake of magnitude 6.9 occurred on Saturday night at 01:10 Moscow time, just 80 kilometers from Marrakesh. 20 minutes later and before 03:21, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center recorded at least four more tremors in Morocco with magnitudes 4.8, 3.4, 3.2 and 3.3. All of them arose near the epicenter of the main earthquake at a depth of 10 kilometers.
