On Saturday, former US President Donald Trump won a landslide victory in the Republican primary in South Carolina, the home state of Nikki Haley, his last and only rival for the party’s presidential nomination. With more than 90 percent of the votes counted, the former president has 60 percent of the vote to Haley’s 39.3 percent, CNN reported. Trump continued his winning streak in each of the primaries for the Republican nomination. The former president said he was eager to deliver the document with his signature to President Biden with the words: “Joe, you’re fired.”
“Nikki Haley lost everything in every primary and now she has lost her home state. Trump will be our candidate and Nikki Haley has no path to victory,” said Florida Congressman Byron Donalds. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, said, “It’s over and Haley should give up the fight.”
Haley herself has signaled that Saturday’s loss in her home state won’t force her to drop out of the race anytime soon, vowing to run a “winning campaign” in next month’s Super Tuesday primary. “I am a woman of my word. I will not abandon this fight when the majority of Americans disapprove of both Donald Trump and Joe Biden,” she told her followers. Haley added that she has a multi-state trip planned, starting Sunday with a visit to Michigan.
