Singer Ksenia Minaeva began her career with performances at the Arbat and participation in the show “Songs” on TNT. She is now called one of the most promising young artists, and Ksenia’s tracks pick up millions of listens. On July 14, Minaeva released her first solo album “Disco Ball” with keyboard instruments to live rhythms of the 70s. We talked to Ksenia about creativity, attitude, debut album, work with the label “Gasholder” and Basta, and “Yandex Music” especially for us we prepared a conceptual shoot that will help to feel the work of the artist.
This is not an easy question. It’s not that they were very supportive, but that they didn’t interfere much. They treated music as something short-lived. I was a pretty violent kid, constantly getting into fights in elementary school, so my parents were happy that I started doing something. Then everything turned out on a whim, I was always attracted to that. I studied a completely different, quite mundane profession, and I really thought I wouldn’t become a musician. As I said, I do a lot on a whim, and this time was no exception. Then he often sang in the streets, in the Arbat and not alone. At some point, I realized I needed to change something, when I hit the ceiling. I heard about the “Songs” project on TNT and decided to participate. I didn’t expect to go through even the first two stages before television. As a result, she turned out to reach the final, the only girl among the boys.
I’ve grown a lot. I realized that I would definitely move as a solo artist. You need to believe more in yourself and not be afraid to gain new experiences. On the show, it always seemed to me that I was about to heal and wasn’t going anywhere. There was a sense that I was some kind of unworthy person. Now I realize that all this comes only from self-esteem. From the height of my experience, I see how much I worked on myself, I tried, so I deservedly got to the end.

When I first joined the label, I didn’t have a sound producer, and that’s the key person on the team, because I can do everything else myself. For a long time I could not find it, but then I was lucky enough to meet Kolya Morozov, and now we are working together. There are also guys at Gazholder who are responsible for guidance, management, promotion, this is also part of my team, I love, appreciate and respect them very much. They help me move forward.
Vasily Mikhailovich and I worked together on the song “Lost”. Basta is a very strong, kind and cheerful person in life. He inspires me so much with his energy that one day I dreamed he was my father. So, apparently, I have a deep respect for him. He is obsessed with music. Enough at work is like a child in the body of an adult with burning eyes. And I work the same way.
The idea for the album came to me unexpectedly, during sports. I heard a selection of discs on Yandex Music, and I was so fascinated by these songs. I realized that the concept of fun and upbeat music with thoughtful lyrics is something that reflects me as a person. Work on the album lasted a little over six months. Previously, I was always afraid to take on a full release, it seemed to me that I would not be able to finish the job. I remember once sitting and crying in the studio: I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to write the same great songs.s. Kolya calmed me down and persuaded me to try again. That’s how the song “The Same Day” turned out, which I think is one of the best songs on the album. At that moment, I realized that I was capable of a lot, and the limitations were mainly in my head.

This is, first of all, disk. Secondly, the personification of my experiences. And the whole concept is based on the image of an inexplicable positivity during grief. This album isn’t just for fun, and it’s not always about a good mood. If you analyze the texts, you can hear many references to what is happening in the world, in society, as well as what is happening in my life. I have experienced many disturbing episodes and panic attacks. For me, this album is a stage of acceptance of what is happening around me.

I wanted to turn on the gospel chorus so that the album would help combat the feeling of loneliness and say, “You’re not alone.” In the song “La tristeza no es mía” it is very well demonstrated that much has already been lived and that we will live a lot. This part is performed by the choir. It creates a feeling of great strength, shows that all darkness can be dealt with and everything will be fine.
My favorite song is “The Same Day” because it loads you with positivity. I put into it the idea that the day can be the best, not just if something important happens. It will be great if I work hard to make my dreams come true, or even if I lie in bed all day exhausted. I think it’s a healing idea for people who punish themselves for doing nothing.
I like the song “I believe you”. There is a lot of pain in it because it is vital. I love the metaphorical nature in the tracks: when the song is not only about love and the relationship between two people, but also about the relationship between a person and society, about the clash of different worldviews.
In The Last Party, I love the gospel choir piece, and the chorus of “Healed Wings Need Flight” is very much about me. I was sick for a long time, came out of the **** depression, dreamed of recovering, and imagined how I would do my favorite job, not get tired so quickly, I would be full of energy and positive to charge people. If I had heard this song at that time, I would have cried with happiness, knowing that the best was ahead of me.
I’m worried, but it overcomes interest and curiosity. This is a new experience for me. I think we’ll have a lot of fun, it will be great.

In parallel with the solo tracks, I wrote an album, and at the same time I was preparing new songs to be released in the fall. They are more charged in terms of completely different emotions, music and sound. This is music with ethnic motifs. I’m planning to release an EP or another album. When I think about how many things await me, I feel great joy and inspiration from the fact that I’m making music with a great team, who support me and listen to me.
