Deputy Mayor Rakov: Introduction of a unified laboratory information system speeds up the process of making medical decisions – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Date: September 19, 2024 Time: 15:15:08

“In January last year, a pilot project was launched in six Moscow hospitals to implement a unified laboratory information system. This not only significantly simplified the work of doctors and laboratory staff, but also improved the quality of diagnostics in hospitals. Previously, in city hospitals, patient test results were processed and stored in different information systems or on paper. However, thanks to the LIS, laboratory test results are now quickly entered into the medical record of the patient in the hospital. The new system will make it possible to standardize the work of all laboratories, including automating the processes of receiving, registering and processing research orders, monitoring their execution and obtaining results. To date, the new system has already been implemented in 60% of Moscow hospitals,” the Deputy Mayor said.

Anastasia Rakova added that the LIS processes on average more than 650 thousand laboratory tests per day. Thanks to the development of additional software, the system can be adapted to almost any laboratory equipment. Currently, advanced laboratory analyzer devices are at the connection stage.

In addition, LIS will standardize the verification, correction, issuance and delivery of research results, as well as quality control in the laboratory. The research process should be the same in every hospital. First, the physician fills out a referral for laboratory tests in the Unified Medical Information and Analysis System (UMIAS). The request is then automatically sent to LIS.

After the patient is tested, each sample tube is assigned a unique barcode. In the laboratory, all samples are taken in one place for registration and acceptance, with any defects in the collection of biomaterial being tracked in a timely manner. The test tubes are placed in special analyzers that recognize barcodes. Finally, the research results are sent to a unified laboratory system in electronic form, after which they are automatically or manually verified by a doctor and uploaded to EMIAS. This is how they end up in the patient’s electronic medical record at the hospital and in his electronic medical record in the “My Hospitalizations” section.

The integration of LIS and EMIAS currently allows doctors to quickly receive the results of biochemical, clinical, bacteriological and PCR tests. The data is available to all doctors in the medical institution and is also automatically transferred to the patient’s electronic medical record in the hospital immediately after receiving the test result. This significantly speeds up the process of choosing treatment tactics, prescribing additional examinations or, if necessary, referral to the appropriate specialist.
