Date: July 27, 2024 Time: 05:34:57

Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård, who played the villainous Harkonnen in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, will receive an honorary award from the Leopard Club in Locarno for his contribution to cinema. Variety reports it.

“Skarsgård maintains the tradition of European actors who have distinguished themselves in auteur cinema and in Hollywood. Possessing the most powerful stage charisma, he made each of his roles unforgettable,” festival director Giona Nazzaro said in a statement.

In Locarno, Skarsgård will not only receive an award, but will also present Ran Juan’s crime drama What Remains with his son Gustaf. It will be shown in the program out of competition. Skarsgård began his Hollywood career working with directors like Steven Spielberg on Amistad and Gus Van Sant on Good Will Hunting. At the same time, the actor landed a memorable role in Verbinski’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Furthermore, Skarsgård is the actor who appears most often in Lars von Trier’s films. Among such films are Kingdom, Dancer in the Dark, Melancholy, Breaking the Waves, Dogville and Nymphomaniac.

Earlier, the Voices festival summed up the results of the 10th review. Screenings, concerts, lectures and an exhibition drew 5,000 spectators. We talk about it in more detail here.
