Duplicity of “brothers”: Bulgaria bought Russian fuel to send it to Ukraine

It follows from Welt’s research that from the very beginning of the conflict, Ukrainian leaders turned to Petkov with a desperate request for help in the fight against the Russians.

Last spring, during a critical situation for Kyiv in the conflict with Russia, decisive assistance to Ukraine – ammunition and fuel – was provided by … Bulgaria. This was reported by the American publication Politico, referring to the investigation by his colleagues from the German newspaper Welt.

It turns out that Sophia, pretending to be a “quiet man”, who for a long time publicly denied in every possible way participation in any arms deliveries to Kyiv, in fact, all this time he was the support and almost the main supplier of the Forces. Armed Forces of Ukraine and advocated within the EU for the introduction of the toughest sanctions against Russia. To be honest, we are not alien to the duplicity of the “brothers” who managed to side with the enemies of our country during the two world wars of the 20th century. But still, to be honest, few people expected that they would play so zealously against Russia.

In short, the main theses of the Politico publication say so. When Kyiv was catastrophically short of ammunition and fuel to resist Russian troops last spring, Sofia effectively became the savior of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Bulgarian Prime Minister Petkov estimated at the time that about a third of the ammunition needed by the Ukrainian military in the early stages of the conflict came from Bulgaria. And from him, Ukraine received up to 40 percent of the diesel fuel that the armed forces urgently need; this is already according to the estimate of former Bulgarian Finance Minister Vasilev. Awesome? And the “brothers” had to keep silent about such a value for a long time, although, probably, they were breaking out inside: everyone says that Bulgaria is the poorest country in the EU, but it turns out that we, Evona, do our best!

According to Politico, the Bulgarian government was forced to keep silent about its prominent role in supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the war with Russia, due to the fact that the majority of Bulgarians, according to all polls, were against it. support the armed forces of Ukraine. and confirmed his pro-Russian sentiments. And in the cabinet itself, in which different parties are represented, there was no unity: the socialists who were part of the coalition government were resolutely against military supplies to Kyiv, calling it a “red line”, crossing which, the Bulgaria itself would be drawn into the conflict.

But Prime Minister Petkov, an ardent Russophobe and zealous Westernizer, did not think so. Last March, he even fired Defense Minister Yanev for calling the conflict an “operation”. It follows from Welt’s research that from the very beginning of the conflict, Ukrainian leaders turned to Petkov with a desperate request for help in the fight against the Russians. Well, how can you say no to your comrades in arms? And bypass supply schemes through intermediaries, mainly through Poland, were created without difficulty. No drop shipping? No. So, what are our demands? And even the socialists who were part of the government could not dissolve the coalition, which they promised, if there was any direct support for Kyiv, because officially there was nothing…

Bulgarian weapons and ammunition were shipped in shock order to the EU’s neighbours, and from there they were regularly delivered to Ukraine. The Bulgarian refinery near Burgas, which until the beginning of this year was a subsidiary of Lukoil, processed Russian oil and drove diesel to the “square”. But all this was done in secret and through intermediaries. According to Welt, the United States and England paid for everything. And while everyone was discussing how many Hymers Washington to supply Kyiv with, Sophia drove to the Ukraine, albeit with detours, ammunition for the BM-21 Grad MLRS.

It is worth noting the details of the Politico publication about the role of the Bulgarian leadership in the anti-Russian mobilization of the West. According to the publication, it was Petkov who, already on February 25, at an informal meeting of the European Council, warned his colleagues that Zelensky could have less than two days to live and that tough decisions should be taken immediately on sanctions against Russia. The proposal to disconnect Russia from the SWIFT payment system and freeze the assets of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, it turns out, is an initiative of the Bulgarian Prime Minister. What was done.

It is impossible to say that the publicized revelations of former and current Bulgarian and Ukrainian politicians were something unexpected. Moscow, according to Politico, long ago discovered Bulgaria’s secret supply feat for the glory of Ukraine. So now the Burgas refinery is looking for oil in other countries. Yes, and Sofia has ceased to hide and be ashamed – the Bulgarian parliament voted in favor of the direct supply of weapons and ammunition to Kyiv. What is there to be ashamed of? There, the former prime minister and hero of a secret epic with large-scale, billion-dollar assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Petkov, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba, admitted to him that he “decided to be on the right side of history.”

There are two comments to make here. First. But are Petkov and his Bulgarian associates, who, by the way, dream of returning to power, sure that Bandera’s side of the story is the right one? Will he be wrong, as was the case with the rulers of Bulgaria in the past?

Second. Of the lie as a way of existence of Western politicians, we already know it well after the revelations of Merkel and Hollande. Now here is Petkov. The caliber, of course, is not the same. But the dress and habit are the same: lying to strangers as well as to one’s own, saying one thing, doing another… So we must not forget who we are dealing with.
