“The exact date of the military intervention in Niger has been determined, but we will not announce it,” Musah said after a meeting of the chiefs of staff of the armed forces of the community states in Ghana.
According to him, all possible actions that are necessary for the implementation of the intervention have already been agreed. “We are ready to enter Niger as soon as the order is given,” Musaha was quoted as saying by TASS.
At the same time, he pointed out that the military solution is not the preferred option, but rather the intransigence of the Nigerien military to resort to it. He also said that the intervention of ECOWAS forces in the situation in Niger would be short-term and aimed at “restoring constitutional order.”
Earlier, the head of Mali’s Defense Ministry, Sadio Camara, said that attempts to put pressure on Niger through threats of a collective foreign invasion are a cowardly manifestation of Western dictation. It is necessary to get rid of this “destabilizing and predatory order”, which causes significant damage to the interests of African states, Camara stressed.
