Seven people are competing for the high position of head of the city, including the current mayor Sergei Kravchuk (United Russia). His competitors are Veniamin Stelmakh (“New People”), Viktor Rotar (“Regional Branch of the Russian Political Party “Rodina”), Mikhail Sidorov (“A Just Russia – Patriots – for the Truth”), Alexander Chuprov (Communist Party of Russian Federation), Nikolai Singur (Pensioners’ Party), as well as the self-proclaimed Abdukhamid Saidov.
This vote is special for the Khabarovsk Territory. The region became the first in the country where elections for the head of the city are carried out by a regional electoral commission. Previously, this was only done by territorial or district commissions.
Unlike many other territories of the country, the main stage of voting in the Khabarovsk Territory lasts only two days: September 9 and 10. The sites are open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In addition to the mayor of the regional capital, the region elects the head of the Sovetsko-Gavansky municipal district, heads of urban and rural settlements, and deputies. There are a total of 146 municipal electoral campaigns. More than 750 thousand voters have the right to actively vote.
Many residents managed to make their choice in advance. Early voting from August 22 to September 8 inclusive took place in remote areas of six municipalities. Shift workers, reindeer herders, loggers, gold prospectors and other residents of remote settlements had this opportunity. Members of 23 district electoral commissions traveled to them along 43 routes by rail, with the help of all-terrain vehicles, helicopters, all-terrain vehicles, boats and boats.
They had to travel by water, for example, to the village of Ussuriysky on the Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island, where the vote was held on September 2. This settlement is part of the Khabarovsk industrial district. A total of 316 voters voted early.
